I've been looking at these gorgeous snakes, and would love to get one (probably after my corn snake eggs have hatched and sold). Does anyone here have one, or have experience of them? What are their temperaments like? I know they are rat snakes, so they just feed like corns? Any other info you can share? Also, does anyone know where I might acquire one in the south west, there don't seem to be many of them around. I#m thinking I'd prefer a female, definitely don't want the stress of a non feeding male in breeding mode if I can help it...
Any comments or info would be awesome :p Thanks :) |

I know Figs has a few...
I'm planning on adopting one (vbb) but.. doubt I can give directions on how you could lay your hands on one.
They tend to be a little more assertive then a corn, being so large they can get away with using aggression to sort problems that would just end up eating a corn..

Yep, I have one My Rumpel is a female. She is a lot more active then a corn and doesn't seem too bothered about hiding away most of the time. Absolute monstrous appetite!! You'll never have to worry about leftovers lmao. I probably don't need to, but since they are semi-arboreal, I feed her more chicks than I do the corns... she doesn't seem to mind that Temperament-wise, she is lovely and calm around 70% of the time. They (including my racer and VBB in this too) definitely have shorter tempers than corns so don't trust not being able to see Rumpel's head at all times lol. Really quick moving despite the size too I wouldn't be without mine - love her to bits
I can't help with finding one, sorry Mine came from Shropshire, but they seem to be getting a little more popular in shops now though; you could always see if your local shop could order one in! |

I've got a colleague who has a brother with a reptile shop, so she's going to ask him for me, see if he knows of anybody who has some, or will soon have some. Short tempers don't bother me, I already put up with Boots XD I guess it'll just be a bigger version of her. There's one in my local pet shop now, but they want quite a lot for it, I've seen breeders offering them for half that price (although they were all old adverts, or too far away). Plus I'm not looking at getting it right this minute o.O I'd like to make a viv stack because I have quite a few mismatched vivs around, thinking about trying to convert an old bookcase. The partner doesn't think it would be too difficult. |

I saw those, I think they're vietnamese blue x tai beauties. Nothing against hybrids, but I'd like to have a pure for my first. |

I have one, only a bootlcace at the moment but growing quickly, only had couple months fell in love with him as soon as saw him. He can be a bit skitty when first get out but is settling quicker and quicker and once settled is quite happy, but don't trust him as much as my corn. Very arborial and active..see him alot more than rubi. Grow very quickly he been in a small terrarium since got him but getting new one soon so can go into the 3 foot one. Then will go up to 4 ft then a large arborial...from what I have found based on research and advice they are pritty similar to corns for looking after temps etc very similar...I love them! |

Store near me selling them for £40 each. I've been thinking about getting. They have a breeding pair for £120, but according to the staff there the male is very aggressive, but the female is docile.
I'm not sure what to do. I think that If I get a hatchling I'll have a better bond. I have found that having Belle my cali king at 3 years old has made things harder to bond, specially when she tries to tag, rattle and spray. My corn which I had from a hatchling, is so gentle and just wants to be on my lap and exploring.
What's your thoughs? |

Aw, shame you're so far from me, I'd be there like a shot. I got my two corns as adults and they're amazing, the male especially has bonded very well with me (see my topic about his midnight wanderings XD). On the other hand, we have a hatchling king snake (well, 8 months or so now), and she still won't tame down. I'd love to get the pair, I think i'd prefer adults with known histories and feeding habits, especially with a new breed of snake I don't know so much about. I don't mind defensive or aggressive animals, I've been bitten more times than I can remember by ferrets, cats, ducks, geese, goats, rabbits (still have the scars from those cutesy bunnies)....a snake bite would probably be very little compared to those XD. |
