Hi Ariah, welcome to the forum. Just a couple of things I was wondering if you could tell us, is your hatchie new to you or straight out of the egg?

If it is a "new to you" hatchie I can help a little (I hope). I got a little girl who weighed 8g back in March. She was one stubborn feeder to put it politely. Before I got her she had gone a month without a feed, and when I first got her she went 3 weeks without a feed. Now, she feeds like a little trooper and is on fuzzies.

A couple of things that might help the others (who are a LOT more experienced than me) help you would be if you could post up how the hatchie is being kept, the set up of the viv/faun, temperatures of the hot and cool end etc.

It might help as well if you let us know how you are trying to feed your hatchie. My little on wouldn't feed outside of the viv (she still won't) and I used to have to pop her food on a hide and cover the viv up overnight to get her to start. Slowly, I began to take the covers off, then eventually she took off the tongs.

She only ever fed every 7 days too, no matter how hard I tried to get her down to anything more frequent.

As long as the little on is bright and happy and is drinking they are quite hardy little things and as I said, if you give us a bit more info, we will be able to help a lot more and hopefully put your mind at rest

Hi

The hatchling in question hatched on 13 June, I have paid for it but not bought it home yet as I go away in a couple of weeks and wanted to make sure it was ok till I came back so that I could look after it properly.
So the little one is only a month old. I have been informed that it has shed and pooped but as yet hasn't had a feed. The person I am buying it from has told me that they are trying every couple of days to feed it.

Am I panicking for nothing? I am really worried that she wont feed, and although I only have a fuzzy picture, I already think of her as mine.

Hi Ariah,

No wonder you are worried about your little one, it does sound like a very long time, that is for sure. When corn snakes are born they have lots of yolk from their egg to survive on (hence the poop). It is quite unusual that your little one hasn't eaten but not unheard of.

My little snow girl Cathy went a whole month twice before she came to me. I genuinely applaud the breeder that they are trying to make sure that they eat before they give her to you

I learned (the hard way) that offering every couple of days had the opposite effect with mine - it just stressed her out. Twice a week was the maximum I could offer her and no more as it just upset her.

If you know the breeder well enough would it be possible to suggest that they only try on a Monday, and she won't take to try the following Thursday? I know offering every couple of days would seem the natural thing to do but she may just be stressed due to the amount of food that she is being presented with.

There is no wonder she feels like yours already - they have that effect for sure

So, yes it can happen but it is not the usual. That doesn't mean you are going to have one happy, healthy girl when you get her. Sounds like she just needs a few days to settle and then it will be food time. When you get her home you can make sure that her temperatures, hides etc are perfect for eating. If you aren't sure about any of that, just give a shout as there are so many lovely people on here who will help you (as will I if I can).

Please keep us up to date about your little girl, I am looking forwards to her getting home to you

Thank you foxtrotsierra, you have been very helpful. I am going to try and see if I can go and take some more photos of her later this week so that I can post them.

I really would like to bring her home but I would rather wait till I get back from holiday and I can keep a good check on her.

Ariah, I am so sorry - English isn't my first language and I just realized a mistake I made

I said that doesn't mean you are going to have a happy girl when you get her when I actually meant to say that doesn't mean you aren't going to have a happy girl when you get her.

I gathered you got what I meant but realized how bad it sounds!! Keep us up to date, would love to know how you get on
