My Gal had disappeared under the soil a week ago so I dug her out to check she was ok and found an enormous clutch off eggs. Her first.

Now due to lack of demand for this many snails I terminated 350 of them, dropped into boiling water, it's a sad end but they weren't really ever started yet.

I intend to hatch the rest, a few for me to keep, a few to the reptile shop free of charge, there is no money in Gals and the rest are frog food.

Anyway after boiling they're all cleaned up.

So who's coming round for breakfast tomorrow, bring your own soldiers.

Good lord, that's a lot of eggs! Good luck with the babies.

Also, because I'm an idiot... What's a GAL? Is that a giant African land snail?

With the snails we have at school we go to the other extreme and freeze the eggs.

I have had the most unfortunate issue with snails, just a couple of days ago actually. Went to clean the snails out only to find I had missed a clutch of eggs. I now have well over a hundred baby snails sitting in tubs *bags head against wall several times* Can't believe I missed them. I am normally so careful, never missed a whole clutch before. Good job you noticed them.

With a hatch rate of 90% is have had 375 hungry slimy faces looking at me. I'm sure your local shop will take some of them off your hands.

I'm looking forward to hatching a small portion of these eggs. I've already got friends asking for babies too which helps.

Bob, I could take a handful from you if you have that many.
My cousin's grand daughter is mad keen on garden beasties and snails. She was eyes agog when I posted the pic of the GALS that were rescued from a smuggler at the airport.

See if your skinks will eat them, apparently you can feed them to skinks. we were going to hatch some at work to see if ours would eat them. We did make the mistake before we got the skink of hatching some eggs and we now have loads of the critters! I spend half my time removing eggs from their tank!!

I have tried the skinks with snails before but they just don't seem interested. I think maybe its more the pink tongues that like snails and snail eggs. Shame.
