I must be since these eggs don't want to stay nice and white or even normal! I lost the little shrivelled one last night but was expecting that. I have nine healthy ones but one of them has surprised me a lot. I took the bad one out at about 9pm last night and all was good. Went up about an hour later to turn the fish tank lights off and saw something pink in the incubator and thought "What is that?" so checked it and this has happened 
It's still nice and pink and veiny this morning and my partner has said that he's had beardy eggs split open weeks before they are due to hatch and still hatch fine but this isn't just split open... It's hanging out :/ What could have caused this? There have never been any eggs attached to that one and that end has always looked a bit thinner than the rest of the egg. Could the Embryo have moved and the eggs shell has just given way? Do you reckon it may still hatch? They are on day 35 of Incubation. |

Maybe there was just a weak part there and the pressure caused by growth of the embryo was just too much for it? Just a guess though.
Doesn't seem like there was anything you could have done different so don't blame yourself  |

That's what I was thinking, it still makes me feel bad though because I started off on the 23rd June with 15 healthy eggs(4 looking off white but still healthy) and now I'm down to 9 healthy(8 if that one doesn't make it) which seems like a big loss to me. My humidity is at 92-94%(it varies apparently), they are on vermiculite and have a bowl of water to keep the humidity higher. They are at 28c(as far as I'm aware this is correct from what I read?) and they have a stat controlling the temp. Does anything seem wrong there? I check over them visually daily and I do exchange the air in the box like I've read. I just feel really down now. I wasn't expecting all 15 to hatch but losing 6(possibly 7) seems a bit much I feel like I'm breeding Betta Spendens(Siamese Fighting Fish) again because you'd start off with over 200 eggs and only raise about 20 babies if you were lucky. |

| It sounds like you're doing everything right to me, but my first clutch is still incubating so I'm not the most experienced person to ask Have you candled them? When I candled mine in the first week, I knew that two were not good as they had no veins. I don't know why because they looked fertile but something must have been wrong inside them |

Moppet: I candled to the best of my ability and I had the same as you - 4 of them looked healthy if not slightly off white in colour but they were the first to go. Then I lost another one for unknown reasons and then one shriveled but still looked healthy when candled. I saw it had got worse last night so candled it and there were no veins any more so I knew it was bad. I have candled these 9 and they do look nice and veiny and healthy, including the one that I probably don't have to candle to see if it's healthy, but I didn't shine the light too close to the hanging out bit just in case. I'm going up to check on them again in about 30 mins so will update with how they look.

| Ah. I hope that the rest of them are okay. It sounds like there's not a lot you could be doing differently imho. Maybe those that have already gone bad just weren't meant to hatch? Sometimes nature aborts embryos etc that weren't properly formed etc. Fingers crossed for the rest of them |

| I have absolutely no experience in breeding - but just wanted to say - please don't blame yourself. It sounds to me like you're doing everything right. There are so many possible things that can, and often do go wrong when breeding - and this happens to the most experienced breeders, as well as in nature. Sometimes even the most experienced breeders loose whole clutches - an there's nothing anyone can do. It's just one of those things... your other eggs look good, and you never know, the split one might make it, too... |

| Well the little split one still looks nice and pink and veiny. I wish this hadn't happened. Now I'm worrying about it constantly and I don't know what I'll do if it goes bad as it's in the middle of the clutch so I can't remove it But if it goes bad, the inside of it is exposed so it will smell a lot and I think it may possibly affect the good eggs with the inside being exposed. |

No, most of them have "snowflakes" but that's just extra calcium I think? If I remember correctly. |
