My clutch of anery motley x hypo het lavender, motley all hatched yesterday, and I'm really pleased I got mostly motleys. But there are a few that are brighter than the others, and I was just wondering if you guys could confirm that they are just bright normals to put my mind at rest.

[

Is this just due to being newly hatched and will the rest of the pigment come back in, or do you think that they will keep this light tone as they age?

Yup my money would be on Hypo's, if so I would guess that your anery motley is het for Hypo. Brown one is interesting too, some lavenders almost look that colour as hatchies, but it could just be a trick of the light. I think we nee eeji on this one! Love the feisty one!

I was thinking lavender. If the anery is het for motley it could have lavender in there as well.

OR...it could be a hypo in blue? The second pic down looks like it's about to shed but looks hypo. You've also got stripe in there The end of photo number 2's tail is cubed.

So you have:

Anery motley het hypo stripe x hypo het lavender motley stripe

Need belly pics and eye pics of the pale brown looking one!

I wouldn't think pic two is a Stripe, more like pic 3 is a stripe(possibly two but can't see the second one clearly) as the one in pic 2 has practically no stripe at all apart from a few bits here and there.

However, I think that the pale brown one is possibly an Amber Motley which would make your pair;

Anery Motley het Caramel, Hypo PH Stripe x Hypo het Lavender, Motley, Caramel PH Stripe. I'm not totally convinced on the stripe bit because as far as I'm aware they can't be het for both Stripe and Motley can they?

Wow, interesting stuff hehe. I believe that all the spotty/stripy babies are motleys, because the mother and father carry it and because even though some have striping, as far as I know it's still motley. I'm not so sure about lavender or amber, and was hesitant to say hypo but I think that hypo is the most likely conclusion with these I think that het motley and stripe brings about a motley animal because of how genes work and that, but I'm not entirely sure. I just call em motley :P. I think that things will be clearer after they have all shed, I usually lump them all together with a big moss hide but I've put them into four separate categories to see how the colours develop. After they shed, they'll be individually housed. If some of these are hypo, that means that dad has to carry hypo. I questioned before, but does anyone think he could be ghost?

I think the first three really bright red ones are Hypo and the little browny coloured one looks like an Amber going into shed to me It's just my thoughts though. We need you Eeji! Lol. I think dad could possibly be a ghost but not sure. I'm not the best with all the anery morphs...

Also, yes I did look it up and if they are both het for Stripe and Motley then the babies will be visually Motley as the Motley gene over-rides the Stripe gene.

A snake can have both motley and stripe. Google motley stripe corn snake to see how the pattern appears. The reason I think stripe is involved, is because the cubed pattern appears on striped animals, not motley. When a stripe/motley corn has one of the motley blotches going all the way down the body without being broken, it's called a pinstripe motley. Another affectionate term for motley/stripes is trundlefart. I don't need to explain why if you look at the pics of some

I also think dad might be visual stripe as well as visual motley.

Photos of the bellies will help confirm the babies are hypo.

From Ian's vivarium:

The oldest pattern morph, discovered in 1977. Motleys can be highly variable sometimes even resembling stripes (these have no influence from the stripe gene), but all have merging blotches and no ventral pattern. Can be combined with any colour morph.

Allelic to and dominant over Stripe which means if a cornsnake is het Motley and het Stripe it will be visually a Motley. The only way to tell if a corn is motley or het motley het stripe is to breed with a known stripe, and get stripe hatchlings.

I don't see any stripes there, just motleys. I'd say numbers 1 and 3 could be described as pinstripe motley which is just a description of the pattern when the motley has a stripe-like pattern.

It was the cubing at the end of the body of the one in pic number two that suggested stripe to me, not really the pinstriping cos there aren't any true pinstripe motleys.
