Hello all
Am hoping some one can give me some advice.
I got home today and went to feed the beardies, saharah (my female) was in the same positiion she was this morning (where she usually sleeps) i went to feed but she would not take anything (tried crickets, hoppersd and morios) but nothing, i then noticed there wss a sandy patch on her leg, under closer examination it looked like she was missing scales, like they had been rubbed off somehow...she can move it but almost limps on it as if its sore. i took her out gave her a bath which she seemed to enjoy, dried her off (still refussed to feed). Shes now back in the viv under the backing light seeming a bit better
I however am rather concerned about her leg/knee...what do u all think? has she just caught herself on soemthing (no idea what) and pulled some scales off and thus feelin a bit sore and sorry for herself (it doesnt go all the way arouund the leg majority of underneith is clear.
She is in a viv with another beardie (only recently sexed them..and got one male one female) they are bouth about 8 monhts old and am in the process of looking for a new viv for one of them (was told be ok until a year old if not 2 females) ..from what i have seen they are coexisting fine and have not seen any harrassment or anything...could i be missing something?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

| I'm certainly no expert and it's difficult to advise, especially from a photo and not to see Saharah in person as there is always the chance that it is something more serious than purely scale damage but... As a first port of call I would advise removing all the substrate and cleaning the viv out then putting down kitchen paper so there is nothing to get into a wound and encourage infection. Bathe the wound lightly with cooled down preboiled water so you know it's clean and keep an eye on it. I've been told you can use a small amount of a topical antiseptic cream like TCP too although I've never done it myself. The main thing though is to keep watching her behaviour to see if there is anything out of the ordinary. Usually reptiles will do everything they can to hide an injury so the fact that she looks like she's limping may mean there's more going on here than skin level. It might be a trip to the herp vet I'm afraid, especially if she doesn't quickly go back to eating. It could be a sign of dominance issues too. Hope she's better very soon though. |

Thank you, she is eating now and walking on it seems alot brighter today...i will remove substrate and put the kitchen roll down and monitor her...she seems miles better today though which is good :)
I wouldn't of thought a burn nothing can burn it on cant reach bulb and even if could its caged? |

depends on your temps on whatever you are using as the actual basking spot though...if the rock/ledge/whatever you use gets a hot spot on it it *can* cause slight burns. |
