Euphemia seems to be going through a bit of an identity crisis. She can't make her mind up whether to be a spider, ostrich, bulldozer or kitchen utensil!!

Here she is acing like an ostrich with her head in the sand.

This is my new emergency tin opener.
(Sorry about picture quality. Auto focus confusticated by glass top.)

Here are links to a couple of mini-vids which will give you a better idea of her size and actual colour. I had some decent daylight for a change.
As usual, I suggest you download and view instead of streaming.

The Spidey Dozer in action.

Couple of shots going walkies on my hand.

You can see the results of her construction site in the background a bit better in this one. Plant pot hide stuffed jam full and a good attempt at mixing some mud in the water dish. The cork log is almost completely buried.

Enjoy! Alan.

I don't know what she expects to find in the substrate but she doesn't like it tidy. The head in the hole and bum in the air is a new one. Almost every morning she has scooped and dumped a load into the water dish. Likewise if I clear the log, it gets buried and matted over. I just spot clean and leave it for her to get on with. She hasn't shown any interest in the pot as a hide as you can see by the way she has stuffed it full. I was hoping that maybe it was pre-moulting behaviour but I doubt it.

Ermintrude, the New River, has started doing the same. Not quite as heavy duty but still quite industrious.

SB & lupi, the idea of the mini-vids is to show how gentle, harmless and mis-understood spideys are. It's the same with 'most' big animals, the bigger they are the less they have to prove.

All my pets are nice and calm.

She's like a demon when it comes to feeding time. I doubt if I could capture more than a blur even on a mini-vid.

I'm going to set up a test tank with deeper substrate. She might be trying to build a proper burrow.
