I have installed the habistat/heat mat on the 1/05/2013 and have just fed the snake. He was under the newspaper lying/curled up on his heat mat. I dangled the mouse in front of him and he was interested, I left it lying on the heat mat with him and 10 seconds later he was already eating it, This is the first time I have ever fed a snake before and i was VERY surprised on how quick he eat the small mouse. Roughly 2 mins he had it in his mouth for and he swallowed it. I was expecting a lump on him due to the mouse but can't really see one so i thought he regurgitated the mouse but he didn't!

How quickly does it usually take a corn snake to swallow a small thawed mouse? He is 1.15cm long and quiet thin for his length.

I hope he is longer than 1.5 cm
It can depend on the relative size of the prey item but they can swallow them pretty quick sometimes. When he has digested can you take a couple of pics with something else in the photo to get a size reference off?

It might be, that he's ready to go a size up. Generally, if the food doesn't leave a bump, once it's gone down to the stomach, it's time to move up. My snakes are 105 and 115 cm, and they are both on large mice. If he ate his mouse in just 2 minutes, and it didn't leave a bump, I'd be thinking about trying him with a medium mouse next, if he is on smalls now. As long as the medium mouse isn't wider than 1.5 of the thickest part of the snakes body, you should be ok to feed it.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of him, like Donnie said, you can tell more from the pics :-)

Corno is about the same length and is on large mice now - if a small is not leaving a bump then I would definitely up to a medium, assuming he is not a particularly slender snake? Ember is still on smalls as she has always been much thinner than Corno and they still leave a good bump on her. Not sure how long she is now, about 80cm I think.

Ember is much like my snake, only my snake is 1.15m. I can see that there is a small lump in his body. But the previous owner said that he could easily go up to medium mice. I will feed him a medium next time. He tends to rattle his tail after his feeding. Ive been told its a defense thing

It always surprises me how quickly a snake can eat a mouse ....although when they move up a size they do take longer as they get used to the bigger meal.

I'm in agreement with the others, it certainly sounds as though he could do with moving up to mediums. As he is slender it may be worthwhile picking through the mice when you buy them, if you can, just to make sure that they aren't more than 1.5 times wider than the widest part of him.

Do you know how much he weighs? It's always good to keep a record of things like that, shedding dates, dates he's fed and what he eats, etc.

Quick question....you say you fitted the heatmat, is it controlled by a thermostat and monitored with a digital thermometer? What is the temp in the warm end?

I look forward to seeing pics of him .

That's just where you want it Jakob . I seem to remember from your other post that it was medium mice that you bought for him?
