So Jinx has shed (missed it just for a change)and I was checking the skin and noticed that where the little blood points are that you sometimes get at the vent, there was a bit of skin at the vent that looked as though he'd shed skin off the hemipene? never seen anything like this and am fairly certain that as the hemipene is an internal organ they don't shed skin off that bit! so thoughts anyone?
This has come up before and from what I remember (and any of you who know me will know NOT to trust my memory ) it isn't from the hemipenis and you can actually get it with female snakes' sheds as well as males. I know there was a discussion about it and a decision made about what it probably was....but I just can't remember . It's obvious to think that's what it is, because with some sheds it looks just like a couple of 'horns'....but as far as I remember it's not. Can't tell you what it is though, so I'm fairly useless !
well from my searching, there seems to be two trains of thought one is that it could be glands the other is sperm plugs?Does that sound right? I have no idea :-/ just want to satisfy my curiosity more than anything!
My thoughts on these are they are just connection points to the vent flap scale. Either to 'operate' the flap or possibly part of the body to skin nourishment channel. The skin is a living organ and not just a dead sock container so needs some sort of connection.
