since we started letting stevie wander around outside her viv, she spends lots of time in her viv trying to work out how to get out.

we have a sliding glass front to the viv and she is fully grown, so didnt think there was any escape risk. But reading other posts, realise they are escape artists. Is there anything I need to do to make the viv more secure

I'd suggest a lock for the front, they're really easy to fit. Although personally, I've got a suction cup that I position next to the overlap so the glass cannot be pushed open while I'm not there :)

How big is stevie? I have put paper binders along the glass so that Apollo couldn't escape when he was small because snakes can flatten themselves to quite an unbelievable shape to squeeze.

Corns are real escape artists Simon, if they can find a way out they will . I have the paper binders on my vivs. I've done it for two reasons......to close the gap between the glass and it also means that when they are rubbing their nose up and down it they are rubbing against the smoother and softer plastic rather than the glass edge. Partway down this thread shows my vivs with red plastic binders http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6324&whichpage=3

I also have locks on my vivs. I always thought of them as necessary to keep little fingers from opening the vivs to get in, not to stop naughty snakes from getting out ....but then I caught one of mine wedging himself against his water bowl and pushing against the glass in such a way that the door was opening ! I'm just so lucky I saw it happening....and locks were fitted on all the vivs the next day.

I also have rubber wedges. As far as I'm concerned its better to be safe than sorry .

How old is Stevie? I'm wondering whether her behaviour is more down to it being breeding season than her having been allowed to wander outside her viv.

Xxx
