Awww, bless him.
Great shots of the eye. Lots of people have said they can't tell with red eyed snakes when they're going blue. There's no way they couldn't notice Sheldon's opaque look.

it is so obvious with Sheldon, he fades to a sort of peachy colour, still very pretty tho. just trying to get the kids to understand he's just a wee bit uncomfortable so they can't handle him at the moment. my wee one erin finds it hard not holding him and having him out to play!! wee scone :)

Thanks mrsbunt - my Cathy is 15 weeks old and I have found out that she was only on a maintenance feed with her breeder to keep her dinky. NOT happy about it, so with the help of paulie78, he has helped me sort out a new feeding schedule for her. The breeder told me 1 pinkie every 7 days. I think NOT. Just in the process of upping it to 1 large pinkie every 5 days and so far so good. I asked as Sheldon looks the same size as Cathy, but there is a huge differential in their weight. Just off out to give the breeder a piece of my mind, and then treat her to some better pinkies and a new place for her to play in for her viv. Sheldon is rather handsome for sure - I got a snow, trust me to get a translucent snake for my first one - quite disconcerting to see her dinner go down and then digest

lol my kids love watching Sheldon eating, he was at last weigh in 20g, he's now on fuzzies and doing rather well on them too. there are so many different ideas regarding feeding it can be rather confusing, but 1 pinkie every 7 days sounds a bit mean to me, Sheldon was every 5 days on pinks and then every 6days when he went up to 2, he's now every 7 days with fuzzies and seems to be putting on weight and seems satisfied with this schedule. cathy is a wee stunner too she's so cute. good luck with telling whether or not she's in blue, I didn't notice first time round with Sheldon but I had only had him just over a week when he first shed. I also write everything down in a diary with regards to feeding, shedding, pooping and how active he is it helps to learn their wee routine and suss out their behaviour and it makes it a lot easier to see when they're not quite right. Sheldon is my first and hopefully not last corn as they are such fascinating little creatures.

Fi, it's really not that uncommon for breeders/petshops to have snakes on maintenance diets. That's not to say they all do it obviously! But I definitely agree you wnat her on every 5 days now you have her. I expect the easiest way for you to know Cathy is going into shed will be that she hides away! I know she is a very active snake currently, you'll probably find one day you suddenly think to yourself 'Hey, I haven't seen Cathy out for a couple of days, I hope she is OK' and she'll just continue to hide away until the deed is done. Just a guess, but it's how I knew my previously inquisitive amel was getting ready - I checked on her every couple of days and sure enough a few days later her eyes clouded over :)

smart bunny - we have a breakthrough. I got Cathy to feed on a large pinkie last Tuesday. I *thought* the only place to get her food from was PAH as advised by the breeder, but a chance remark in a specialist tropical fish shop has lead me to a different food source. Even though they carry minimal herp stock, they do snake food too. All their pinkies are guaranteed at 3g, and they do them themselves. It was lovely being able to actually see what I was buying her too. The bags of 5 even have the date they were done on as well, so I have done a rough calculation in my head and bought enough for the next 3 months for her, if I can get her on a 5 day interval feed. She took after 6 days with me, first time, so am going to go for a 5 as she is seemingly so settled.

So, fingers crossed for this Sunday. She is a seemingly shy eater, which surprised me considering her nature, but I will get her out of the viv eating as soon as I can. I just want to get those valuable nutrients into her and her weight up before I worry about that. I placed the pinkie in with tongs so my smell wasn't on them, but am not fussed about where she eats (on her coco hide as she had at the breeders) just that she does get on a good regular schedule for a couple of months, then slowly take it out of the viv for her. I just hope that is on the right track, if not, I really do take constructive criticism well, as I only want her up to proper weight and happy
