So yesterday he was either under the aspen or in his coconut hide and didn't see him since I put him in yesterday... until I went to check on him about an hour ago and found him by his water bowl, he is still wondering around checking for possible ways to escape now.

I really didn't expect him to be out so soon, I even changed his water bowl and he came right up to my hand and didn't seem bothered
I also got to see him drink which was fascinating...

This week of settling in needs to hurry up!!

Awww, bless him. The week of settling in is soooo hard and always goes soooo slow! But it's worth it afterwards and it makes it even more special when you can handle, feed etc

That is lovely to hear NatalieC - I put my girl in her new home yesterday and she has already had us in stitches with her antics. My interior design was not to her taste, so she spent last night sorting it out to hers. I am going to leave it 24 hours (which will be this lunchtime) to change her water, so will see how she reacts then. So glad Phoenix is settling in well

Ah that's nice to hear, Something new too, to see her sorting out her new home which sounds like she's going to settle in well :) Phoenix made me laugh last night, he dived into his water bowl head first, and did this three times after drinking. That was something new to experience too

Aww, I am so envious NatalieC - I haven't managed to catch Cathy drinking yet, but if you have a look on the other thread I started about introducing her in the pictures part, she had me in stitches - my husband was convinced that she was staring at him!

I had to change her water a little early as within about 10 minutes of looking, she pooped in her water bowl, so that has now been removed, disinfected, rinsed and refilled. Am keeping my eye open now for her heading for a fresh drink, that is for sure!

When did you get Phoenix - it is a killer not being able to bring them out to play and get to know us isn't it?

The first time i saw him drink it was very fascinating to watch, as I've been around snakes but just never seen them drink, or swim in their water so it was a great experience. I'm sure you'll see Cathy drink soon enough. As for pooping, Phoenix hasn't done this yet, as he was fed on the Monday before i got him so i have a feeling he pooped then in his old faun.

I got Phoenix on Wednesday, around 3pm. Almost as soon as i put him in his faun he buried under the aspen and I didn't get to see him for the rest of the night, but since then hes come out each night and has been staying out of his hides longer each time. Which I'm hoping that this means he's getting used to his new home and me as he does come over to me when I watch him

I do agree with you Fi, it really is a killer not being able to get them out to handle them, though it is worth the wait

I have to wait until Friday afternoon NatalieC - but as you have seen from the photos, it isn't too bad as she is quite the poseur!

Like you said, it is more than worth it for us new keepers. I have been around snakes before, but never had my own so want to make sure she is fine.

The breeder contacted me last night with a bit more info, she is a late November CB12, and I have (quite sadly!) made up a little book with her feeding schedule etc in it and am going to weigh and measure her on Friday so I can make sure she is staying healthy.

I can't wait to see Phoenix's first proper photo shoot!

Not sad at all Fi - in fact it is usually advised to keep records of feeds and sheds just in case in the future you should need to go to a vet you will know what their normal habits are and if anything has changed.
