Hi, my name is George I got my first snake Slink in September last year. I had wanted to get a snake for a while and am so glad that I finally went for it. I have used this forum so many times over the past 6 months to check what I should be doing for this and that and have found it seriously helpful so just thought I should take the time to sign up and say hi. Here is a picture of Slink

Hi Slink, that is one gorgeous corn you have got there. I am getting my first corn snake today, and am rather excited. Although it is my first snake, my Gran used to have a boa so I am quite confident that I will be able to look after her. It was this forum that swung it for me - I have been grinding my husband down for ages over getting a corn, and when he saw this forum, he gave me his blessing knowing that there was a fantastic place for advice etc. Slink is absolutely beautiful |

Hi foxtrotsierra thanks for the comment I was in the same boat about getting a snake, I had been thinking about it for years and finally decided to go for it last year and am sooo glad that I did. I agree with you about the forum as well I don't think I would have got a snake at all if it hadn't been for all the information on here. I hope you enjoy having a snake as much as I do!
Also thank you to everyone else for the welcome messages. |

Am loving it so far - have one very inquisitive little girl. Like clockwork at 9pm every night, her head comes out of her favourite hide like a periscope to watch TV (according to my husband!). She really is a character. Although I am just changing her water daily at the moment, she is testing the water with my hand.
The breeder I got my girl off said to keep my movements slow but purposeful so Cathy read that as "jump on hand of new Mummy for playtime". Trying to explain to a snake that no, she is not allowed out for playtime yet has lead to my husband questioning my sanity.
Slink is one handsome boy, I know nothing about morphs, but I love the fact he looks as though he has a buffalo skull on his head |

Haha foxtrotsierra that is brilliant that cathy pokes her head out to watch tv and will actually climb onto your hand, unfortunately slink has always been a bit shyer than that. My family also seem to look at me in wonder when i speak to slink (obviously thinking "he's gone crazy"), I had never noticed that about slinks head but it does look a bit like a buffalo skull |

I am definitely seeing a buffalo skull there! My Cathy seems to have what looks like at the moment a clown's head on the top of her head - I hate clowns but adore her.
Even though she is only new, we have a game already - apart from "up periscope" when my husband is convinced she is watching TV. Yeah, more like the shadows it it throwing off.
I have put a loo roll in her viv and every morning she has moved it, so when I change her water I put it somewhere else so she has got something to 'play' with. Kellog put a brilliant post about handling corn snakes for new owners, and even though she is not ready for coming out of the viv yet, I have taken some of her ideas on board, and they are great.
Family (1 husband, 4 older children) still think I am bonkers for talking to Cathy - they are just going to have to get used to it
I would genuinely be lost without this forum, it is pretty much a "how to" for any new corn snake owner |

Tell me about it Slink - this forum is what swayed it for my husband in letting me get a corn snake in the first place. I had read all the info, bought the books but he was concerned if I needed advice (and quickly) that there would be somewhere I could come to ask and lo and behold - here I am.
Have made a great friend already and he puts up with my daft emails like a trooper.
He even made me register with a reptile vet before I bought her too, just in case and we have had her first "doings" checked and she is absolutely fine (she had had a regurge with her breeder).
It is all worth it in the end, that is for sure. Even though the reptile vet (I am positive there is a proper word for it but can't for the life of me remember it)is 25 miles away, he is going to give her the 'once over' in a couple of months, just so that he has a baseline as she will be getting her yearly checks there. |
