Having had a bad week:
Vet to my horse due to him eating holly and getting a huge piece stuck in his throat, making it impossible for him to swallow 
Crashing my car and writing it off 
I decided to browse the classifieds on the darkside, well that has resulted in two complete vivexotic lx36 setups finding their way into my house 
Ooops, how silly of me, now I need to find some occupants for them

Ha Ha - Horse survives to eat another day, I'm slightly poorer due to vet bill.
Only me and car involved with some black ice and a crash barrier - car died, but I walked away
The last part is ok, once sorted I can free some of my RUBs up and hopefully find myself a nice hatchling
I was just feeling a little sorry for myself so decided to do some therapy by having a look on line - couldn't pass on the two vivs complete with thermostats, lights and guards, foliage and wood for £60 |

Or - more likely - horse survives to eat another chunk of holly, as soon as he gets a chance ( if he's anything like mine ) ... ;-)
Main thing is, both the horse, and later you, are ok, cars are replaceable...
That sounds like a very good bargain - two new vivs and the rest - now for the nice part, what to put in them? :-)

He has been banned from going near the holly hedge - it has been electric fenced off, no way will he have learnt a lesson and would defo be back eating holly
As for car, will miss it but as you said it 'was' a chunk of metal and I walked away unscathed apart from being stiff for a few days.
Vivs have now been dismantled, cleaned and put back together, just got to silicon seal (they had never been done and had been put together wrong)
Now the fun part hunting for a hatchling that I like |

Could probably go for a housie but not sure I like hoggies.
The plan is to move Tobago and Orinoco into them as temporary until I decide on their permanent homes
This frees two RUBs up and also leaves me with a new and unused vx24 that was bought as a bargain and definately doesn't have anything to move into it now |

Are you intending to seal them to high heaven so they can cope with the humidity? Or just assume you will have to dump them if they don't cope with it? |

Just not sure of hoggies - shouldn't judge as never met one in the flesh, but then nor have I met any housies. Led a sheltered snake life - corns and rainbows
Definately planning on a good layer of seal on all the joints, but not planning on them being their forever homes as they will need 4'x 2' Also once adults the humidity isn't quite as crucial - will make sure they always have moss hides and plenty of them for choice.
The thermostats and wooden branches which came with them would of cost me virtually what I paid for every thing |

I will be interested to know how you get on with them (as you know I stalk your posts for your rainbow info for future reference lol!) as we both know, 4ft humidity proof vivs are not so easy to find... |

I didn't say I disliked hoggies - just 'unsure' if I like hoggies, they do have a certain ugly cuteness about them. It is more the tempremental eating and hassle of the ambient temp - my house is freezing!
@ smart bunny, at least you admit you stalk my posts Good humidity proof vivs/enclosures are expensive and very hard to find, so thought I'd give it a try for the CRB's (BRB's in temporary 2' pennines, until I source their permanent) At least the CRB's are more tolerant of lower humidity |

| Oh they are? Er I mean of course they are! *whispers* how do you know that? What have I missed please, can hubby stop misting Prism's enclosure 3x daily then? lol! I did ask when we first got her if there were any differences as I'd been reading up on BRB's, and the only difference snakesitter came up with was that they could possibly tolerate slightly higher temps, but no mention of humidity - I don't want to be getting it too wet... |

Maybe I'm a neglectful owner
My two still currently in RUB's and on newspaper - I keep one end slightly damp (does dry out when I forget to spray), but they have two butter tubs for moss hides and I make sure they are always moist, I probably spray every other day and check the moss hides, so far have had no problems with shedding - my thoughts are that as long as they have access to moss hides which are moist there isn't a problem and if truth is known that is the same for my BRB's except Ruby currently has 4 moss hides in various places for her use |

Thanks for that tip Dan, I have just ordered my aquarium sealant and about to get some varnish to coat my wooden branches so will coat the vivs interiors before I seal them |

I had wondered about varnishing a wooden viv, firstly because they look nicer than the really huge plastic ones, and secondly because they are so much easier and cheaper to get hold of! Thanks Dan :)
I keep telling hubby that as long as she has a moist hide she'll be fine, but since moving her into a viv, although she has started eating (3 times no refusals now yay!) we never see her out any more, so he has been keeping the humidity up hoping she may start venturing out...

Know what you mean about the looks of wooden vivs compared to the huge plastic ones.
So pleased Prism is eating unassisted at last, Just so you don't stress about not seeing her out and about, my two are no longer the avid cruisers of the RUBs like they first were - I hardly see them out any more.
Infact I was totally shocked to catch Ruby out yesterday evening and amazed at the fact she was shedding and I was able to watch - never seen my corns shed yet.
