After months of planning and pestering you all for help and advice I took the plunge tuesday and bought myself a snow corn hatchling. Hes 4 months old would love to say hes doing well but I aint seen the lil git yet hes happily hiding away still settling x i decided to put him straigh into my vx24 had mixed opinions on starting him in a viv that size but took chance. Ive put funds away incase I have to go out and buy a totally new smaller setup but hoping he will be okay find out monday when I try a feed I guess x anyadvice for me right now? X ive left him be just changing water at minute but still a bit iffy with the viv size x

Not got ALOT of advice but one thing i'd say is make sure any holes are aquasealed and that the viv is kitted out with lots of hides and bits and bobs for him to be able to hide under, fake plants, logs etc, so that he feels safe.

Congrats on your first snake also look forward to pics!

Before picking him up I must of checked his viv about hundred times to make sure secure lol x the entire thing is sealed nicely I got a log and ivy at back of viv, two hides at either end hope hes happy enough did cut a toilet roll in half for extra two but he aint left the one he settled in tuesday lol x cant wait to see him relaxed and exploring ill get pics up as soon as possible x the temps was worrying me my warm end seems to alter a lot I got it steady 29 first day but it went to 31 wen I woke up so got it to 28-30 at moment cant seem to get them steadier than a 2 degree gap x

Only thing I would say is if you've got such a young snake in a viv that size MAKE SURE you block the gap between the glass doors as it WILL be able to squeeze out. A cheap paper binder is a simple way to do this, mine cost 50p from a local stationery shop. Some folded card will do the trick as well for nothing ;)

Congrats on your first snake, and look forward to some pics after his week settling in :)

Oh that's a good point about the gap between the doors - there is a post on here i'm sure with a picture of a snake squeezing through it, it's amazing how little gaps they can get through!

Re the temps, i wouldn't worry about the slight change between 28 - 30, mines is usually around 28 - 29.8, never exactly the same all the time

Ive blocked the gap bought long wedges in expectation I looked and thought surely he couldnt but didnt take chance and keep it blocked anyway x I know there growth is so varied but at what age roughly do they stop becoming escape artists through glass doors lol x

'He' looks lovely

I have no idea about what size they would be unable to fit through the glass door bit.....wouldn't even think about it in terms of age as, like you say, it varies MASSIVELY.

However, Oscar my adult boy is 3years, 4ft5 and weights 747g, so he won't be getting through them lol. My wee girl Emmy however is only 6months, 19inches and 17g so when she is finally in her viv, i will be keeping the gap well closed up until she is mahoosive haha.

Don't take any chances, i already have lost a hatchling and it's a horrible experience

Awww, little sweetie, glad you've got the doors blocked already :)

I can't find that pic of the snake getting through the doors, I think it was Donnie, or maybe Dan, who posted it... we need them to see this post as it was quite a pic lol!

Glad the first feed went well. I've had several 'missing snake' scares. Normally they are sat somewhere calmly watching me move everything in the viv/faun...little monkeys...
