Evening all :)

So I'm thinking of building a hatchling rack like this to house 30 baby corns in lidless cricket tubs

Will be heated by a cable laid on the shelves

my question is, is there a way to put the dividing shelves in without routing the above and below shelves?

cos i cant find a router thats 18mm to go with the mdf, could i use a thinner board instead?

Any help at all greatly apriciated

Thanks

Scaly

I wouldn't use 18mm. There's going to be hardly any weight in there so thinner will be fine

If it's not going to be that wide maybe you wouldn't need to put in the vertical divides if you used the 18mm. It all depends on how wide it is going to be and how much sag you would get over that width. If you closed the back you could definitely do away with the vertical divides and have no sag and get some runners that the tubs can slide into like the ones on this link

Verticals are going to make it much trickier to make surely? If you want to stick with them though just an idea but... how about if you made the verticals less deep, so they didn't go all the way to the back then you could still run the strip behind them?

Np. An easier way of putting the verticals in rather than routing it out maybe just drill the horizontals where the verticals will be and countersink the holes so the screws sit below and then if you don't want to see any screws at all you can fill over the screws and sand flat.
