| HI,Ive read a few posts saying that wood such as logs/twigs or wood chip needs to be treated before given to snakes, what is the treating proccess? |

Most people treat collected logs/twigs by stripping it of bark, putting it in the oven and sometimes soaking in bleach (rinsing well!) or boiling water as an added precaution. In theory the decorations or substrate purchased from a shop designed for reptiles should already have been treated. However it doesn't always prove to be the case - I got a nice branch from a well known petshop and noticed it had active woodworm...I have soaked it in bleach as it didn't fit in my oven and that seems to have done the trick  |

Depends on your level of 'paranoia'
I've put fresh cut wood from recently downed trees into my vivs with no treatment at all aside from a resting period...
Wood that's sat around for a bit on the ground I'll usually bring in to the house and let sit for a while (weeks) to make sure there are no critters living in it and that it's dry. Sometimes I'll hit it with some warm soapy water and a scrub brush (esp bark that has mould growing on the inner surfaces)
Some will advise you to bleach it, boil it, bake it, debark it or all of the above.

| Am of the medium to high level paranoia! my branches came from a shop and were soaking in boiling bleach water rinsed well then i sterilised them with miltons. they are currently drying. the rocks that i scavanged off a beach went through the same process with the bleach except that they were scrubbed well and i didnt sterilised them after rinsing. |

| I buy wood from the shop too. I give it a good overnight soak in bleach, leave to dry then spray with reptile disinfectant (beaphar deep clean). |

| I would treat everything, fresh or not. You don't know what nasties have been in the wood or whats peed on it. I bleached mine in a bath for a bit debark which is just painful, I may just scrub hard next time and then bleach again. You can oven them instead in they are small. |
