Just a thought, is the wood you buy for reptiles viv's from a pet shop normally treated ?, I forgot to ask the shop when I bought it.
What should I be looking for if im unsure, I guess wood worm bugs etc ?.
Secondly what sort of temperature should the cool end of the viv be?. Am going to get a second themometer monday as only have one at the heat mat end, and seen every say one for the cool end also.
It should be treated already but it is always good practice to check it over and if you're not sure, treat it yourself. I recently found active woodworm in a large branch I got from p@h...
Personally I don't bother with a thermometer in the cold end. It's at room temp which is approx 21 degs so not much I can do about it :p If it's too cold the snake will just move closer to the heat mat. As long as the warm end is controlled and statted etc and you have a digital thermometer with the probe on the heat mat and plenty of hiding places all over the viv then everything should be fine :)
Thanks for the info folks. warm end has mat and stat with digital thermometer set to around 30. might need to get a bigger mat as the one im using only covering about a 1/4 of the viv , its the one i used with the starter tank he came in, his only been in the new viv 30 inch since friday.
I have 28-29 in warm end and room temperature in the cool end. room temperature varies from 15-20 degrees but the snakes can move if it isn't warm enough for them, there are lots of good places between the warm hide and the cool hide for them to hide in
