Hey guys, I've just got my first corn snake, and it was feeding day today. I was just wondering if I should feed the snake (Nagini) by hand, or by tweezers? Just too let it get into the mindset of when hands go into its terrarium that it is going to be handled?

I was just looking for a bit of advice, thanks!

Hi and welcome, I always use feeding tongs but I know some people just hold the mouse tail and dangle, its up to you really.

I always feed out of the viv and by hand. My snakes are used to this by now, and while they might "miss" their strike and nip at my fingers, they never actually mistake my fingers for a meal. I wouldn't do it any other way personally, I love being able to feed by hand :). I do have a pair of tongs because when I got my Jake, he was quite scared of anything that moved so I tried to limit getting near him for the first while :)

Thanks guys! I'll try and get some photos up of her soon! She's a "sunburst" morph (I think that's the term?)

I use tongs simply because that's how the breeders fed them and I didn't want to stress my snakes when everything here was new to them. It became the norm to use tongs.

Currently I feed all of my snakes with tongs in a separate tub

I did feed Titan and Apollo from my hands for a while (sitting on one hand, offering a mouse with the other) because they took the food so gently and were so very calm but they're both more vigorous feeders now and although I can still feed them whilst they're sat on my hand, I hold the mouse with tongs because they can strike and coil quite fast and they don't always hit their target the first time!

I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your snake
