Hi new here and got my first corn snake 6 days ago. Figured I would share my experience so far. I got him on the day he was supposed to be fed. So I waited one day then fed him, it looked like he was constantly searching his tub for food, so didn't want to hold off any longer. The pinkie fell off my tongs into the tub, and the snake went straight over had a sniff and grabbed, he ate it extremely fast. Seems like he will be a good eater right?
He seems to be very active, he hid for about 4 hours after eating and has been exploring his tub ever since, when he rests it seems to be for very short times.
Because he is to active I wussed out and put on a pair of gloves my first time handling him, which was about 15mins ago. I was more scared of dropping him than him hurting me.
Is it okay to wear gloves the first couple of times handling until we are both more comfortable?

I like forward to getting to know some of you guys and reading about your experiences :)

- Karen.

If he didn't strike you the first time I doubt there is any need for gloves, hiw are you controlling temps and measuring them as iver activity can be caused my incorrect temps. But normally just the little fella check the place out and will settle in the next week or so x

Hi and welcome.
It's up to you if you use gloves or not, it won't harm your new snake. I don't use them because I love the feel of my snakes.
Like Georgina said we normally suggest leaving a new snake for a week to settle in and just change their water and check for any mess.
One 'rule' we do all stick to is no handling for 48 hours after feeding. This gives the snake time to digest it's food in peace. It's a good rule because it helps to prevent the snake regurgitating it's meal. That's not nice for you to clean up and is really not good for your snake. It messes up the natural balance in the gut.
Anyway, that's enough of that!
Love to see some photos when your newbie is all settled in and happy to be on camera.
In the meantime if you have any questions or need any help just ask!

First off hi and welcome!

Snakey wont freeze if you turn it off until your stat comes, which really i would recommend as a mat without a stat can do alot of harm, as long as the snake has had 48hrs to digest his previous meal he will be fine without the heat until then and being winter i would presume your heating is on anyway
