Thanks to my nephew I now know that Bryans poo sample has shown worm eggs. So for any of you that has dealt with worming a reptile I have a few questions.

If I send a sample to PALS for testing will I be able to take the report to my vet and he will prescribe the correct medication?

Will he insist on seeing the snake first?

It says a 3 day pooled sample should be provided, surely this does not apply to snakes?

Would I be able to inject the mouse with the wormer for Bryan to eat? (he is not the easiest snake to handle and really do not want to upset him to much)

Or is there a wormer I could buy and try for him?

Any advice would be great, thanks.

You can buy it online I think, just weigh him and ask the vet what dosage and then I assume in the mouse would work? P.s you have poo in the post :)

Panacur is most likely wormer but please check with the vet before dosing, is best getting the dose correct rather than getting it horribly wrong and possibly harming the snake

Is panacur safe to use with milk snakes, I have read that you have to be extra careful when worming King snakes does this apply to the milk snake as well?

milks are same family as kings so treatment would be the same, is why you should get the vet to advise on the best treatment and dosage

Is this the result of the testing that your nephew did? I thought he was a vet doing a masters in reptiles. Could he not perscribe the correct wormer/dosge for you?

Yes this is through the testing that he has done. However he did tell me at the time that he can tell me if there are worms or eggs present but that he would not officially diagnose or treat the reptile, that would be my responsibility. I am glad that he found out though as I would have had no reason to have Bryans poo tested unless he started to show signs of illness. I am guessing that the worms are from how he was previously kept, unsanitary conditions etc.

I have to echo, which means the vet will probably want to see the snake and maybe send off their own tests.

I have a feeling most living animals have worms, including us that we just don't know we have.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

Right I have spoken to a vet and he has agreed that panacur is the best wormer to use. He has said that I should use the 0.2ml of the 2.5% solution per 100g body weight. So I have come home to order some wormer only to be informed that it is discontinued and only the 10% is available. Any one any good at working out figures? The 2.5% contains 25mg per 1ml and the 10% contains 100mg per 1ml. So if Bryan weighs 300g i was going to give bryan 0.6ml of the 2.5% so if using the 10% solution I would give 0.15ml of the 10% solution. Have I worked that out correctly?

That sounds right to me, the 10 is 4 times the strength of the 2.5, so you'd divide it by 4 to get a dosage.
I'd ring the vet back just to double check just to be sure.
