Think its down to flexability. Much more flexible than glass and potential to squeeze through the gaps. Thats what i would assume anyway?

I think it scatches more easily than glass so after a while its not as easy to keep clean.

Think you would still have flexibility issues at the centre. think glass is the better option. Local glass suppliers should be able to help you out. Better to get toughend glass with polished all round edges.

I made a viv stacks (7 vivs) over a year ago, I priced up for toughened polished and it was over £200 so not a chance, I didn't want to use normal glass but it was dead cheap. So I decided on perspex, I got 6mm perspex so it has less tendency to flex, and like you say put runners on the ends as well. I haven't had any problems at all as yet, scratchings not to bad if ya careful, people at the time said I would have problems but non as yet.

I used Perspex In 2 vivs I've made other than slight swirl marks from cleaning it had no real problems. To stop flex being a problem either don't make the viv to tall. Or put wooden plynths along top am bottom to make the area for sliding panals smaller.
