First off, aloha to all of you I’ve been eagerly surfing this site for a couple of months now, and I figured it’s about time that I post a how-to question.

Thing is, my corn snake (Discordia) shed her skin for the first time at my place last week. Everything was fine until I double-checked if the process had been successful and found about 4cm of the snake’ skin was still un-shed. Bummer. So I put into practice the hints I found on my keep-your-snake-alive books, i. e. make it stay in damp cloth for some time, and try to manually and very gently remove the skin with some olive oil. It partially failed, for 2cm of skin are still adhered to her tail. I stopped trying because I felt I could hurt my snake if I tried “harder”, poor thing.

Now, my plan was to do nothing until next shed (wait and see method), for I am not all-in for manually removing the un-shed skin. But I don’t want my inactivity to cause Discordia any skin damage. As y’all know almost everything there is to know about those beauties and seem quite helpful, here I am with my big question: do I need to do anything? What would you do?

Thanks for your time!

Take a damp washcloth, and let the snake slither through it in your hands. That solved any shedding problems my snakes have had in the past :)

I would put some sphagnum moss in both of discordia's hides and let her sit on that for 24 hours. It might come off on its own. If it doesn't then you will have to help. In the past putting the snake in a bath for 10 minutes before letting them run through my hands with a damp flannel has worked well for me. Good luck

Love her name Bath,(not too warm) worked for Ruby, followed by the damp towel. She's just gone into blue for the 2nd time so we've put sphagnum in her hides this time.

Pop her in a warm bath then let her slither slowly through a rough (you don't want a nice soft one) towel. That may take the rest of the shed off. If not leave her in her viv for a day or two with a moist hide then try the bath and rough towel again.

Awww thaks for your input! I'll bear them in mind for te next time; I went home yesterday to find her tail neat. I am thinking the olive oil I applied kept moisturizing the dead skin so it finally detached and fell?
Thanks again guys!
