I agree with the advice to ring the Vet today, phone advice is free and might put your mind at rest too |

Most vets will tell you of a 'specialist' if one is not available through them.
Good luck :) |

Hmm, I don't think it will be that hard to find a reptile specialist, and I'm not sure that the cost should put you off getting medical attention for your snake, this, after all, is part of the deal when keeping animals.
Anyway, hope he gets better |

Don't worry, Scaly. If I were you, I'd try ringing the vet, and that's for free. Chances are, he'll tell you you might need to do the faecal test - ask him, how much they charge and if it includes Salmonella and parasitology. Then you can decide, what to do - poo test with the vets, outside company - or wait. I'd be tempted to do the test, as the blood could mean salmonella. Many snakes carry it anyway, but if they're weakened or a bit under weather, it can multiply in them and cause them problems. Or it could be some type of worms, which again, you're better off treating. You could wait and see, how the snakey handles the next feed, but it'll probably worry you... I'd see what the reptile vet thinks over the phone, then decide. Re cost - you can always tell your mum you'll pay her back later :-)

Any vet can send a fresh sample off for analysis without seeing the snake. You can just scoop the sample into a clean container and pop it to the vets. Some vets will take a look at the sample and if they know a little about what they are looking for will be able to indentify some parasites if any are present. The last test I had done at our local vets cost me £12. |

No afraid not. I think closest rep vet to me is in sudbury. Not of much use when you don't drive:( Can't complain with the local vets though they are very helpful and do have some knowledge of reps but admit they are not specialists but will always be able to pass any problems they are unable to deal with on to specialists that they are in contact with. And it just so happens that my nephew is now doing an extra year at uni to cover reptiles/exotics. |

Aaaand she didn't want it, although it was popped again, this is the third feed in a row that's happened, is it her doing it or is it just the pinky randomly exploding? |

I would think it is her squishing it, unless it has been over heated maybe it would pop then? How do you warm it scaly? |

I only make it a squiggly bit warm in some lukewarm water. And it's not kept on the heat mat overnight or anything |

I find that if I defrost or place a pinky or even a medium mouse in warm water 9 times out of 10 it will pop from any form of pressure whether thats from the snakes mouth or just from the snake moving over the top of it. Can I ask a few questions. Apologies if these have already been answered on previous post. Why did you decide to try and assist feed? What else have you tried to encourage feeding? What age and weight is this little snake? How many weeks has it been since it fed? |

I tried to assist because I have tried just about everything else She's had it scented with chick (last nights I actually put inside the chick for a while) she's had powerade baths, left it overnight, major teasing, braining and just about everything else. She hatched in August and last week weighed 6g Last Fed was 27th Oct, but that's only her second since sept 23rd |
