My hair is now on end. And it's 4ft long. This will become awkward with transferring between rooms...
That said, the first one is a particular beauty...for a spider (coming from an arachnaphobe) |

Sorry for any rise in pulse rate chaps. Glad to see that you can at least appreciate them.
These are my first 'creepy' crawlies and have always been fascinated by them. Closest I've been to them is the odd Housie scuttling across the carpet. The excuse for getting these particular T's is that my cousin's daughter is terrified of even a wee Housie. Don't worry, I'm not being mean. After the ribbing she took for being held hostage standing on a chair for an hour, she happened to mention that she isn't quite as terrified of bigger spiders. It was so bad that she even considered moving out from her new house. Only been in it a couple of months. I suggested to her that I could get a T and she could treat it as a remote pet to visit and eventually overcome the fear. Surprisingly she thought this was a good idea. So, I've read up and checked out these two for the docile nature and less scary appearances. I'm still waiting for her to book her first therapy session.
No names yet but I'll call them Incie and Wincie for the time being.
These are not rescues, I bought them from The Spider Shop .... but ... the day after I ordered them a Chile Rose appeared on the SSPCA site!! Sod's Law strikes again. I'm phoning in and staking a claim tomorrow. Oh! Yes! There will be more. |

Looks can be deceptive Abbz. The Cobalt Blue has a potent venom and described as a psychotic monster which will lash out at the least provocation by one very experienced keeper.
Anyway, I'm for educating folk and breaking down the misconceptions, fears and phobias that folk have about some animals. I'll never be another Steve Irwin but like to think that at least I can do my little bit to help.
The rescue Chile Rose was taken by the time I phoned up. Gone within one hour after the picture was posted. Glad it was rehomed anyway.

The Red Rose getting all defensive after being attacked by a cricket. Ha-ha! I think she was sleeping and the cricket hopped up for a drink.
News of a decent eatery travels fast. This freeloading Housie appeared from nowhere looking for a free lunch. Surprised at the neat chevron pattern on its back. I always thought they were a solid browny black.

Aaaaah! My phone froze on the pics so I couldn't scroll away! I can relate, I am more terrified of house spiders than these guys. I think its the way the little ones move, way too quicky!! I too have been imprisoned upon chairs/beds/counters on numerous occassions. These guys still make me shiver but I think I could just about hold one... And I'm still fascinated by them. My boyfriend says he'd be interested in having one at some point, and think I'd be ok with it. Maybe creeping 007 style into the room its kept in for some sneaky peeks every now and again! |

Thanks Donnie.
Blaze, I can understand the fast scurry of a Housie causing a reflex panic. But the one I caught ended up being chased around the box by a small cricket. Just think how it feels when it sees us towering above it. These two are slow and docile species and amazing to handle. If you get the chance to see one at a 'Meet the Animals' show, go for it. You will be surprised at how different it is from your expectations.
