Essfer as recently been getting a certain wanderlust. Twice in the last month he has escaped.
The first time I thought it was due to the viv being left a crack open and neglecting to use the viv-lock. (Bad us, I know) So when he eventually popped his head up in the bathroom and we put him back into his Viv we made sure to lock the glass properly and thought all was well.
How wrong we were, he escaped again. The glass was closed and we were entirely flumoxed. After going around the viv a dozen times to try and figure out his escape route, the only thing I can think is that he managed to squeeze between the probe cable and pipe cleaners used to hold up some plants and escaped through the cable hole at the top of his viv.
This has now been filled with sealant and taped off on both sides with some electrical tape and I'm getting some extra glass runners to go at the side to seal them entirely when closed.
Does anyone else have any tips to try and keep our little Houdini home-bound? The stress of him escaping is horrible. |

The best thing is to go round the viv with a fine tooth comb and block off all holes, no matter how small. The gap between the doors where the lock goes is also a very common escape route. I used some cardboard folded over to make it thick enough to push in the gap. Not very flattering to look at but better than no snake. It's very surprising how they can get through such tiny spaces. Good luck!!

The sealant should be fine if i were you id remove the tape immediately really bad idea all my cable holes are plugged with sealant and its pretty sufficient to keep them in though i dont upgrade mine to vivs till they are yearling size cause im so paranoid about escapees lol |

Thanks guys. I've removed the tape. Ess is about 18 months old now, and has been in the viv for over 6 months. He's never made a break for it until a few weeks ago, hopefully he won't get the opportunity again. |
