I will soon be purchasing my first corn snake and I am so excited about it i joined this forum in preparation and have enjoyed reading so much advice you all give. I know this is a common question but I have to find out specifically about certain products.

I will be buying approx. a 3 month old corny and wondering if the 18" or 24" Terranium will be suitable seeing as I have read a lot about not over sizing there home or if i should settle for the Faunarium and if so which size one? I was worried about there security aswell last thing i want is to play hide and seek around the house.
Thanks so much for any advice you can have me for it really is much appreciated x |

I think it depends on the snake as to whether it will bother them. Lots of cover, hides and plants etc and make sure there are no spaces they can squeeze out of. Just remember that snakes can flatten their head to squeeze through gaps and where their head can fit their body can usually follow. |

| i have had both my two (not sharing) in the plastic faun and they haven't managed to escape, although i must check their lids and check that the top is on proprerly at least three times a day(am rather paranoid)! |

| Thanks I will buy the Terranium and try to separate it into two sections but I will also buy a Faun just in case. I could use the faun for feedings? thanks as-well all for the help. |

| I've had my hatchies in a 60x40x40 cm viv with plenty of hides inside - they never refused to feed or displayed any behaviour that worries me, so I assume it's alright to have a bigger viv as long as they don't feel too exposed :) |

I got a 3 month old, he not big at all and he gone straight in to the 24" lots of hides plants etc and he is fine. I don't think it the size on the Viv but what you put in it that counts. As for the faun you can always get a 5 l RUB from staples it only £5 and is great for a feeding, this is just my experience so far. Hope it helps.

Advice, thermometers off eBay, £2 each, thermostat off either seapets or Surrey pet supplies (most people will recommend habistat ones to microclimate, and those sites are cheapest I've found). As for the water bowl, I use (and a few others do too) them ceramic dog/rabbit/cat bowls. I use them because they are a bit deeper as mine like to bathe! For a hatchie you could use a hamster size one :) vines and plants, even some wood bits are great and good price from Dunelm Mill!
Of course, this is entirely your choice but you could save a few quid along the way  |

Looks like you've thought of everything I'd echo what Serena said about the thermostat, you'd be better buying a Habistat Mat Stat (100 watt). You can buy them new from Ebay for much less than the shops too. I do think it's worth getting at least 1 exo terra digital thermometer for the warm side (cheap one for the cool side is fine), as I had a cheap thermometer break on me and one of the snakes was almost cooked in his viv when the stat broke at the same time  |

I have both of your options in use. My daughter's hatchling, Ruby, went straight into the 24" monkfield,no problems at all, 2 hides, a bit of greenery. She is a very confident little girl though, out in the open a lot of the time. It is very secure, I don't see how any snake could escape from one.
My hatchling Tanith is in the 18" faun, got a really good deal on the setup,again no problems. I have plugged every conceivable escape hole. If she were in the Monkfield, she would need more hiding places but she'd be fine and will probably move her into one next year.
Having both, I would definitely say the habistat over the ministat, I will be replacing the ministat as soon as I can.
