As i was playing with Dexter tonight he opened his mouth really wide and i thought"oh my gosh he is going to be sick". As i had already had him out of the viv for around 20 mins my husband suggested it was time to put him back. When we placed him back we noticed that he was constantly opening his mouth wide then closing it. We have had him for 5 weeks now and have never noticed him do this before. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please? I would appreciate any advice! THankyou from a bessotted corn snake lover .xxxxxxxx

Maybe his jaws got dislocated a bit during handling, they often "yawn" to get them back into place :)

Sounds like yawning to me too. Corny sometimes takes really long yawns. First time he did it, I got really worried coz I thought his jaw had got stuck in open position!

Snakes do yawn. It is to realign their jaws mainly and done quite often after feeding but if the jaw hasn't been sitting right then they will stretch it out.

If it was sitting mouth open then that's a different matter and can be a sign of an RI but it doesn't sound that way. Just keep an eye on him for a bit but its more than likely just realiging.

(Small clarification on dislocation. If a snake dislocates its jaw that is a different matter as well, they don't dislocate their jaws to eat, the ligaments etc around the jaw allow the jaw to open very wide and also twist as well but the joint does not dislocate. Dislocation of the jaw is an injury).
