Apollo is getting a little large for his faun. He is now longer than length plus width and it doesn't seem like he has much space. He's growing very fast at the moment, he grew 2 cm longer in just over 2 weeks. He's due to be weighed again soon (waiting until he's pooped so it'll be more accurate) but I bet he's put a fair bit on too.
He is just under 2ft long, would putting him straight into a L36 be too much for him? I could put loads and loads of fake plants, hides and other decorations inside so that he would have lots of cover.
He would have probably another month or so to wait if I decide to put him into his 'big boy viv', so that I can decide where I'm going to put it (and make space for it), order it, get hides and decorations and put everything together how I want it to be. Looking at his growth recently, he will probably be over 2 ft by that point, especially as he's going up to hoppers next feed (he's had double fluffs a couple of times now) |

I would say it would be absolutely fine as you are making sure there will be lots of cover |

Go for it! I'm sure he'll be fine as long as you do like you say and give him lots of hides and cover. |

Both mine have been fine going straight up from a fairly small faun to 3ft viv, Corno was quite a bit less than 2ft long at the time, Ember has just moved up as she is so long and thin, but not sure how long she is currently :) |

Yay! Looks like a new viv for Apollo then! I'm very excited about it. Obviously if he gets stressed and won't eat or something then I'll have to consider a midway size but hopefully he'll be fine. He's always been such a greedy pig where food is concerned, hoovering it up even when he's blue.
That will mean I can move my large hatchling, Aphrodite into the faun as she's really too big for her RUB and will definitely need to go up in size in a months time looking at how she's growing.
Time to start collecting decorations for Apollo's new viv then |

I put Percy in lx36 when she was well under a foot.I just put loads of stuff in and took it out as she grew. So far the advice ive read regarding snakes being scared of space really hasnt been true with mine. I guess all snakes are different though.x |

Great news Thanks. Just a few questions as I've already started planning what to put into it haha.
How do people usually attach plants and vines to the viv? I'm guessing the suckers won't stick properly on the wood. Are blobs of sealant strong enough or will I need to create holes and cable tie bits in from the outside? (This isn't ideal as makes redecorating a bit of a pain). I don't have a hot glue gun, although I have seen this is useful.
I'm intending to put a heat mat in by detatching the plug and feeding it through a hole I will drill for it then attaching it again. Is this what most people do? |

I've got the vivexotic lx36 and we just took the lid off and put the wires through the hole then sealer around the gap, my ivy i used a hot glue gun, i would have thought sealent would do it you just might have to tape the ivy inplace while the sealent sets |

Couldn't agree more, far too much is made of this. All mine were in their final vivs at 9 months without a problem. |

Ive never quite got it myself!? In the wild wouldn't snakes have a massive expanse of space? ie - dessert or rain forest! x
Moppet-there are holes already in an lx36 so no need to drill :) personally I have threaded my plants through the holes that are meant for the wires as I cant get ANYTHING to stick in my viv!! Ive tried glue gun even an it still fell down!x |
