Hi all, I am a newbie and we picked up our daughters first snake, a sunkissed yesterday and he/she is settling nicely. Although in theory I'm not scared of the snake and have held it, I know it won't hurt if it bites etc etc I am worried about actually picking it up, mainly because I'm worried I'm going to hurt it........ I think (honestly :-/ ) any tips or advice would be great as I'm worried if my daughter picks up on me being nervous she will be too Thanks |

Has he been left a week to settle in first? Really, you wont hurt him! its more supporting with a gentle hold than gripping,if you are worried about showing your daughter you are nervous, practice picking him up on your own first |

I'd leave it for a week to settle down first, then try feeding and if she eats ok, leave her another 48 h to digest the food. Best if you read the stickies.
After that, just try to be confident, not too slow and hesitant, not so fast, that it would scare the snake. Scoop her up gently from underneath. I used to be so scared mine would escape, she was so fast and panicky, I put the faun in the bath, with the plug in, and just handled her shortly, over the faun, just in case she falls. Some people handled theirs over a bed for the first couple of times, in case the snake falls. Anything that gives you a bit of confidence.
It can seem hard ( depending on the snakey, too ), but you'll soon get the hang of it. :-)
