This may sound weird but do you believe in making a special connection with animals. I have worked with various domestic animals that their owners say are aggressive. Alot have shown aggression to other people but I just seemed to calm them down. This was when I was a few years younger and I never gave it a thought really. As you get older you start thinking more about things though. I have taken two snakes on over the last year and half both of them were said to be very very aggressive. Supposedly striking at the glass when near the viv, hissing, etc. Now the first snake did think about striking but it was like he changed his mind when he realised it was me and calmed right down. Now I have taken Bryan on. When I collected him he was aggressive towards the person but when I got him out thursday I saw no aggression towards me. He was quick but did not hiss, strike, musk or anything else. My mum tells me I almost seem to surround people with a calming/relaxing effect when near them so she thinks that animals pick up on this is as well and it calms them. Do any of you seem to have this effect on animals or people? Or am I just odd |

Yes, I believe in it. Apparently I do it with animals as well. I have met 'aggressive' dogs who went soft as muck when they saw me, irritable small pets, angry rabbits etc etc they just seem to like me Apollo my yearling was apparently very 'fiesty', striking and coiling into an s shape whenever anyone went near and I haven't seen any of that at all, he is the most chilled out snake ever and I can even stroke his head without him caring. My Mum reckons that animals like me because I like them regardless of whether they like me. They can sense a soft touch when they meet one, dogs especially seem to have this extra sense. They just seem to like me more than others Shame I don't have the same effect on people... |

I believe it's all about having a calm, not excited air about you. I'm not sure how animals pick up on it, but it even seems to extend to insects and such. I'm not sure I would say I have a calming influence, but they do seem less scared / nervous around me (which is often mistaken for aggression). |

Yes, I believe it, and you certainly aren't odd, just perceptive and kind, and they can tell.
I believe animals sense your intentions and moods. Horses are excellent example - I have a two year old arab gelding I semi rescued ( long story, never meant to buy a youngster, went to a sale, stud being dispersed, this very quiet baby arab being sold for peanuts, all the nasty, dodgy dealers there - and I don't know, what came over me, just couldn't stop until I bought him. ). His breed is very sensitive and he reads me so well, he is like a mirror. I can come to the field, be stressed from work and not even realize it. I put him in the stable, but he is snorting, wound up and jumpy. I make myself stop, turn away from him, calm down, next thing I know, he is standing right behind me, nose on my shoulder, quiet as a lamb. With my old mare, when I used to ride her, I used to feel exactly what she intended to do ( mostly sneak off and eat from the hedge . All I had to do was to touch the outside rein and she knew that I knew...if something spooked her, I used to feel her adrenalin, through my legs ( now you can call me weird ). I could think left and she'd turn left... it only works when you're both calm and on the same wave length though.
I think snakes can smell your adrenalin, if you're scared or nervous - and react to that - after all, their main sense is smell.. so if you are nice and calm, why shouldn't they pick on that, too? Bazil seemed to like hubby better than me. I was the one that had to catch him and get him out ( and I used to be very nervous that I hurt him ), but then he got to handle Baz, when he was nice and relaxed. Since I became more confident, Baz has calmed down, too, and he wants to come back to me, when someone else handles him now.
Sorry for the long post, this is a very interesting topic, and right up my street

I attract animals and repel people, but that said i dont really like most people . O/h's always comenting on how where ever we go i manage to find a new animal friend. Best one was when i went round to a friends house, she had a cat that she was fostering that had come to her as a feral. normaly when someone came into the house he would dissaper off, i was very honored in that he came down the stairs to see me and sniffed my hand. the general rule when ever me and the o/h go to friend is that the kids will go to him and the animals come to me |

I feel a bit like that, lupi lou. I get on better with animals, and when I meet someone walking a dog, I say hello to the dog first.... |

Lol Me too!
My personal approach is just treat 'them' as a person rather then a thing or accessory of a person.
I think a lot of animals appreciate the respect and return it in kind.
