Hi, I bought my daughter a 3 month old baby corn Thursday before last. She's been completely chilled till now. She fed on the Saturday after we got her, hid for a day, back to normal. My daughter hasn't touched her, just changed her water, moved the bedding to get her smell in there. Then she didn't appear at all on Thursday, came out Friday morning but that was it. Having just read all the posts about escapees, I said, just make sure she's in there, well she wasn't in the hide but burrowed into the aspen, I helped look, she was fine, not that bothered about being disturbed. This morning my daughter told me she came out shortly after, whizzing round the viv, rattling her tail and vibrating and striking against the glass really angrily, back to normal this morning. Do you think it's because we disturbed her or because she got my scent for the first time or she's hungry, she's due a feed today. We think she may be due to shed as well.I said I'd ask for her as it freaked my daughter out a bit.
Sorry for long post.

You really have to get used to their different moods remembering they are reptiles not a cuddly pet, they do not love us or even like us, they simply do what snakes do, eat, sleep, hide away for hours and days on end and put up with being handled when sometimes all they want is to be left alone. Remember it's only a baby and will as most do get used to being handled in time, little and often is the key. Sure she will make a great pet given time.

Thanks for quick reply Mick. I know that we could expect this reaction if she was being handled, she hasn't been yet.I was only asking because it was such a change in her behaviour. She's been so completely laid back up till now, if this is normal then that's fine, I was just concerned there might be something wrong.

Just to double check, it sounds like normal baby behavior, but what are her temps like?

Hi Lozzy, warm end is 82,which the reptile shop we got her from set it to, cool end I'm not sure, she had been spending most of her time in the warm end but we found her in the cool end. what do you do if the cool end isn't cool enough when it's just room temp, should we get a thermometer to check it?

I would maybe put it up to 83/84 and see how she is, its a good idea to have a thermometer in the cool end just to keep an eye but room temp is fine its when it catching up or going over the warm end you want to worry but the weather changes everyday and some days my cool end is at 71f, on warmer days it can get to 76/77f just make sure your viv isn't in direct sunlight too

Ok thanks Lozzy will try that, I don't think it's in a position to get direct sunlight but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for your advice guys, this is a great site. We did loads of research, spent time at the reptile shop handling and being shown how to feed snakes, then you get one home, she does something different and.......... reminds me of when my kids were babies and I'd wake them up checking they were breathing!
