Hi
we have just got our first hatchling (shes a lavender/butter) and we still have her in the case we were given by our breeder but dont think cola will be able to stay in there for much longer we have a komodo terrium until she is big enough to go into a VIV as shes still tiny my concern is can she get through the gaps in the sides of the komodo terrium has anyone used for hatchlings
Advice greatfully recieved

thanks for reply thorne walker
length wise shes just over half the lenght of the tank, i am just concerned that she could escape the air slats as i am reliably informed they are like hudini we have lots in the tank for her to hide under.
At the moment shes in a cricket box which is inside the larger tank but i know i the next week or so i will need to change this we do when shes being handled put her in the tank to explore as she is very nosie going in,out and over everything. This is our set up
And this is Cola

I think you're right to worry.. the tank is a good size for her but those air slots do look mighty large.
My critters are in glass tanks so I don't have any exp with that kind of viv..
Have to let someone with the exp offer a fix..
One caution I want to offer tho..
NO TAPE! Snakes WILL get Stuck and removing them WILL do DAMAGE.
There is no safe way to use tape in a snakes environment.

hay and welcome, cola is beautiful. Rubi was in a similar teranium (dont knwo make im affraid) when i first got her from shop as a hatchie. I didnt have any probs with her try to escape, but i wouldnt like to say for definate that it isnt a possibility, as like you i was informed that they are very good escape artists. However, i assumed that as the terraniums are suitable for hatchling snakes that they would be designed meaning the gaps are to small for them to escape. |

I keep my yearling in a faun that size I think. I wouldn't keep a hatchling in a tank that size as I think they would get lost until they get a little bigger. I don't think they can fit through the gaps because they aren't as wide as you think but I wouldn't like to risk it with a tiny hatchling. Apollo was 17g when he went into a faun. I keep my hatchlings in the clip lid tubs that you store food in. I just drilled some air holes |

As Moppet said you can get tubs with clip lids few pound in tesco/asda, if you do this, just make sure its the clip lids!! Im not sure if the faun gaps are ok for a hatchie, but if it is ok, put bit more ivy to hide in, Dunelm Mill is fantastic for fake ivy and flowers And as was said tape is nasty, please dont ever use it near your snake |
