I was uncertain where to post this, so if this is wrong I apologise.

Basically, one of my snakes has developed what seems to be a fear of her feeding rub and I have absolutely no idea why.

The usual routine is that I take her out of her viv and handle her for about half an hour, then I put the mouse on to defrost which takes another half an hour. Just before I go and get the mouse, I get out the viv that I feed her in (which she has fed in all her life to my knowledge). But when I guide her in, her attitude completely changes and she just does not want to go in. When she does finally go in, she is fine. She eats happily and is absolutely fine.

At first I thought she was just being difficult because she wanted to stay out longer. She is a complete puppy, loves attention, never grumpy always wants to come out. She just used to resist a little.

But it has come on gradually over the last couple of months but it took a massive and sudden turn for the worse this weekend. It took my partner 10 minutes to get her in and she even nose bumped his hand away, she was that agitated. She has never ever done anything close to that before. Her body went all tense and she tried everything not to go in there. And then when she was in there, absolutely fine again. No trouble to get out either, she doesn't dash out.

The viv is always cleaned and disinfected with a reptile disinfectant after every feed. She is a very small adult around 4ft and she is 5/6 though I believe that is because she is a Miami. So it is not a size issue I do not think (which is unlikely anyway because they are agoraphobic). I don't leave her in there very long at all.

I am very confused and very worried. I am going to viv feed her this weekend because I don't want her to get that agitated again, and see how she reacts to it.

I did rescue her about a year ago from a family that really had no idea how to look after or handle snakes. But she has been good as gold with me until now.

If anyone has any advice or an explanation on this I would really appreciate it. Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading.

Maybe if when you go to feed her dont handle for so long, straight out the viv, straight into the rub, and maybe put a towel over it so its a little darker for her?

Your welcome, also maybe if you take the rub out of view of her viv she might not get so grumpy, just throwing ideas around

This may seem like a daft question but how big is the RUB? Apollo decided he didn't like his RUB anymore but he had kinda outgrew it so when I replaced it with a larger one he was much happier.
