Hubby's new Columban rainbow boa has just refused her third attempted feed
The 1st week we couldn't really leave her to settle in as she had mites so we were bathing her every 2-3 days. Hence we were not all that suprised she missed her 1st offering. Then we tried to leave her alone as much as possible, only getting her out for a bath once during the next week. Feed time arrived and she looked to me like she was in blue, so when she refused again I told hubby to try not to worry too much and hopefully she'd feed once shed.
Great relief this morning to discover a perfect shed (well, in 2 parts but eyecaps and tail tip off so all good!). Tried to feed her tonight and... still no joy I tried offering both a pinkie and a fuzzy (just in case she thought the pink was too small to bother with lol) and brained both, but no luck, she actally veered away from both as if scared of them
We have now left both pink and fuzz in her warm hide with the hope she will feel safe enough in there to eat (we left the previous feeds overnight to no avail as well) but I'm not holding out much hope.
I know it's too early to panic yet and we've still got chick thigh scenting to try, but just feeling a bit sad she won't eat yet. She's only had 3 feeds before we got her and she's only a baby!
Oh and also Ember shed today - she's had a strange little sore spot on her head for a few sheds now - but instead of getting better, it seems to get worse each shed! So that's worrying me too.. not been a good snakey day today lol! |

Sorry to hear you are not having a good time at the moment with Ember's sore spot and Prism not eating. I can't offer any advice regards Ember's sore spot - but I'm sure the more experienced people will come along and offer advice. With regards to Prism, all I can offer is that one of my CRB babies is far more reluctant to eat than the other, I initially had to just leave a brained pinkie in the Rub with her. She is still not what I would call food orientated and I brain her fuzzies and literally bash her on the nose with it until she resorts to biteing it. I also only offer food every 10 days even though they are babies - hoping this makes them hungry and more food orientated. I am glad she shed ok, mine tend to shed in three pieces at the moment too. I truly hope she takes the food next time. Try not to stress too much, easier said than done I know, sending 'positive' feeding thoughts to you |

try the CRB on nicely warmed rat pups. See if she has a taste for them. Failing that, you can try chick scenting on either rat or mouse. Failing that, if worst comes to worst, personally, i would try live, but as a last resort. |

Also, 3 feeds a little early to be letting them go to a new home, a lot of boas start on live, and wean off to defrost over time, in some cases its the only way to get them into a solid feeding routine, and even on 1 live feed, 2 defrost feeds isnt enough to settle them into it.
Also, how are you feeding? do you approach from the top with the mouse, or do you approach from the same level as the snake?? approaching from above can be very intimidating to young snakes, its always better if you can keep the mouse at the same level as the snake. Tub size plays a part too, for a not much more than 2 month old crb, you want something like a 9ltr rub or similar, too big and it will not feed. |

hope prism feeds for you soon. regarding the sore spot on embers head, 8 had damaged a scale on the top of his head and it took a few sheds to clear, on the second shed it looked like an enire scale had come off attached to the shed and looked worse than it had orgininaly! think it took his 4 sheds for it to clear. |

Thanks for the tips guys, we're definitely not giving up yet, I know there are loads of different things to try - just not sure what order to try them in lol - though we left overnight again and still no joy We've got some rat pinks/pups but they look utterly huge which is why I tried the mouse pink/fuzzy.
I'll see how Ember is once she's finished digesting and may try to get some pics

I've also heard dipping in tuna water / raw egg helps the scent. Also brain them or pin***** the body so some blood comes out! Give it a wiggle and hope she takes the bait :) |
