hero is a cb11 (august) normal western hognose

he weighed 9g and measured 7 inches when i brought him home. he had 'apprently' been feeding on double pinkies since september and never missed a feed (9g? never missed?)

he was fed weekly at the store so i gradually upped him to ever 4 days, and evey 3rd feed on the 5th day. after 5 or so feeds he had got upto 13g. the annoying sod then decided not to eat for 4 1/2 weeks, going back down to 9g and i finally got him eating buy scenting a pinky with wild toad. he made it to 14g and on the 15th of may shed. he missed his in blue feed.

once my pinkys were used up i moved him onto small fluffs which he took happily and he made it to 19g, i then have been giving him normal/large fluffs and he now eighs 29g and has just cleared ready to shed. his rowth is amazing.

there was a lot of rub swapping resizing going on during he=is fast, he ended up in a 3ltr rub.

hes grumpy in blue, but only hisses and hooded, he head butted me once when i first brought him home.

here is him when i first brought him home

and here is him last week just before going into blue

finger crossed he eats once hes shed :)

and it was amazing how much fluffs made him grow compared to pinkies :)

Ah thats excellent to see. He really is a chunk now. I reckon steve is probably not far off Hero in length but Steve is no where near as chunky. I mean chunky in a good way :) I know they can be an issue somethimes when it comes to feeding so I am expecting it at some point. Just waiting for the hissing and hooding lol. Its interesting to read about the shedding. I have been told this but kinda thought they must have got it wrong. Very strange.

Oh poor Hero, glad he is looking so well now. Did you buy him private or from a shop?

80 pounds from a shop, they had him on sand in a viv that had an ambient temp of 35, no cool end and feeding weekly. I did see him eat instore and they said he ate without fail. But 9g and 7inches long at 6 months says other wise. But you never know x

Our snakes were all fed the smallest type of food possible for their age while in the shops - pinky for our corns that were 6 months old when we got them, rat pink for our boa that was 7 months old and fuzz for our king who was 16 months old.

Cute 'little' snakes sell better, I guess. Harsh though, our lot have grown so much since we got them and now have them on proper food sizes - larger Fuzzies for the corns, small weaner rats for the boa and small mice for the king.

Nice to see someone else is looking after their snakes well :)

He was on double pinkies, which was the right size, if not too much for him at that size. My corns were 16 months on and still on pinkies! They are now scoffing smalls, and midnights soon ready for mediums x
