Hi All,

I am preparing to buy some hatchies soon so I am in the process of deciding how to set them up. I think I will be buying a large heatmat (so that it can be put into a 3ft viv eventually) and some RUBs and sitting 1/3 of each RUB over the heat mat.

I already own a ministat 100 for Apollo's heat mat. Should I just get another one of these or is it worth shelling out for a better one? I've had my eye on a pulse stat for a while because I'm not keen on the temperature variance from the ministat. 3 degrees seems like quite a lot, although Apollo doesn't seem to mind.

I'm quite happy to spend a little more on a better stat if it is worth the money. What thermostats do you use and why? Can anybody recommend a good pulse stat?

Thanks,
Moppet.

I have to say i have loads of stats in use here the 3 main types being Micrcoclimate ministat the Habistat mat stat and Komodo and i swear by Habistat im sick to the back teeth of the huge variation in temps using the ministats and i vow never to buy another one pulse stats arent really nessacery for corns so you'd be better off putting your money into a shiny new Habistat mat stat

The Pulse Stat is more suited for use with ceramic heat lamps. It is designed for the higher power rating and maintains a more constant temperature.

The standard Habistat Mat Stat 100 watt is ideal for heat mats. It has a slightly wider +/- temp range compared to the Pulse Stat, but only a couple of degrees. This is accurate enough for keeping Corns safe.

I've heard that the MicoClimate is very variable in the temp range it can hold. I've had no problems with the Habistat range. Recommended.

Habistat all the way for me. I have 1 microclimate and it has much more variation then my habistat mat stat. I also use the habistat pulse stat and will only buy these from now on as I like the 0.2 deg variation. This is my personal preference and the mat stats do the job they are meant to perfectly well.

i do have the micro climates and as others have said there is quite a bit of variance, i keep thinking of changing 8's stat over to the habistat matt stat as i have heard nothing but good things about it.

I haven't been able to find any of those stats over here.. I went with a reptitherm 500r from zoo med... aside from being kinda expensive it's working great for me.. I don't really see any variation.. maybe 1 degree C...

I have one with a habistat pulse, it basically only varies at most 1 degree but I have a microclimate and it ranges over 6 degrees!

At the end of the day for now that microclimate is better than nothing, but I am looking out for another habistat..Unless its possible to run two mats on one stat?

you can run 2 mats off a pulse stat easily. just have a thermometer probe on each mat
