Last night my ultramel anery het stripe x opal het hypo stripe clutch started to pip Unfortunately we could see that a baby had tried to slit through the egg and failed, so we cut it to try and help but it was too late a tiny, perfectly striped amel was inside. Hopefully its siblings will keep me busy over the next few days though to keep my mind off it

Only a couple of pics for now, but I promise there'll be more later!

Amel noses

Ultramel face

And then here's a couple from the last clutch, a little normal that I'm planning on keepingm should shed tonight

And a stupidly bright amel, I dread to think how bright it's gonna be once it's shed!

They are soooo adorable when they are first popping their noses out. Sorry about the little one that didnt make it.

I'm still getting my head around the genetics side. Does the fact that one parent is an ultramel mean that all the babies are hybrids even though they look like amels?

The whole ultramel being a hybrid thing I think has been blown way out of proportion, personally, I can understand that the first ultramel was/may have been a hybrid but because it'll have been bred to corns and corns and corns, it's probably about 0.01% hybrid to 99.9% corn now. As far as I'm concerned, these amels are just plain old amels but everyone's entitled to their opinions, if they don't wanna buy what they consider hybrids then they don't have to buy them

Thanks guys I promise I'll have better pics later on this evening, hopefully a baby or two will have emerged! Keeping my fingers firmly crossed for an ultramel stripe or two
I think the little one struggled because the underside had dimpled so much that it had basically caved in and upwards, therefore pushing the baby up to the top of the egg, not giving it a lot of space to move. Just really wish I'd got there a bit sooner, I was concerned about it before, so I really should have cut it sooner it's happened now though so not much I can do about it, was such a pretty little thing, must have only been about 3 grams.

Beautiful little noses and some lovely hatchlings. :) So sorry for your little stripe not making it. Just wanted to suggest that with your next breeding, try to calculate when the eggs will be hatching. Then during that week, take a damp paper towel (wring all water out so it isn't dripping, just moist) and just lay it loosely over the eggs. This will soften them up quite a bit and make it much easier for the hatchlings to cut the egg with their adorable little egg tooth. ;) I do this with all of mine and haven't ever had a problem with them getting out of the egg. Best of luck with those still waiting to emerge. Can't wait for more pics!

Thanks all! Thank you for the advice, IF the shells were all super soft already, I think it was just bad luck with the lost baby with the heavily dimpled egg etc, however I will know for next time to keep an eye on any heavily dimpled eggies, there was one other very dimpled one which we snipped yesterday just to be on the safe side but it made its own little slit anyway, ungrateful little thing

MORE PICS!!
