We decided to clean Ace out today and the wee bugger went for me twice when i went to lift him ...........
Really annoying as i thought we were making some progress?!
In the end up i shoogled him into another container and cleaned his tank out then put him back in and he just went straight back into his hidey hole.
Maybe i should just accept he doesnt want handled .........

Don't fret, you probably took him by surprise! My Snow who is the most dippy, docile thing EVER will occasionally tail rattle at me if I catch her off guard :)

Did you put him back as soon as he bit you?
Just cause he'll learn that he can prevent the handling by biting, and probably keep doing it.
Just keep up with the regular handling sessions and don't give up :)

I've posted before about my Okeetee being a head case, once she's out she's brilliant but is very defensive of her viv, hissing and striking most of the time, I just accept it and remember even if you do get tagged it doesn't hurt. Don't give up, remember most do get better.

Awwwwwwwww thank you!!! Talk about feeling done in!! I have a gsd who's an unsocialised nut job and on the way to corn snake the same!? I didn't give him the chance to strike, put him in his tub he came in and cleaned his tank so he didn't win. Sounds silly but wish more than any thing my dad (who made me love snakes) was about to girn to.
But .... You're a hell of a close second :o)

Have a look at these two topics for a before and after with my Grey Rat Snake. Absolute terror and repelled rescuers for a full year.

http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18636

This is the same monster. All it took was an hour of negotiation, I don't hurt him ~ he don't bite me.

http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21689

A bit of time, patience and maybe a little discomfort makes it worthwhile. So keep at it and don't let him think that he is winning.

We're convinced our Kingsnake LIKES coming out to savage us. She seems happiest when she's got her teeth sunk into my OH's hand/arm/stomach/leg/toe...

We just don't give up on her, a lot of the time she's fine now. But she's biting to EAT and constricts at the same time, very rarely is she snappy when we're picking her up - she waits, gets bored and tries to eat us.

Try and try again, you're awfully big and scary to your seemingly evil snakey.
