I've heard different opinions so thought I'd ask on here as the best information I've had on corns is from everyone on here.
Hatchlings finish being hatchlings at what age? So when do they move out of "faunarium" type housing onto a vivarium?
Can hatchlings go into a 24" vivarium? when would they need to move into a 37" vivarium and would that last them into adult hood?

Hi
Hatchlings generally get referred to as hatchlings until they reach their first birthday, they then get called yearlings 
You could put a hatchling in a 24" viv but it may escape between the glass sliding doors, it would also need to be supplied with lots of hiding places and decor to help make it feel secure
A 36" viv should be adequate for an adult corn.
I think most people keep their hatchlings in Faunariums until they are big enough to move straight into a 36" viv with lots of cover - saves the expense of buying a 24" and then having to get a bigger viv for when the snake is adult

Hi , you will find all snakes grow at different speeds, and so age and housing needs will differ.
Personaly i have moved mine up when they look like they need more space to stretch out, my 2 month old is in a 30cm x 30cm viv at the moment , when she reaches the point she needs more room she will be moved to 45cm x 30cm and so on.
A hatchling in a 24" viv will find all that space a bit daunting.

oh okay brilliant, so they're okay in their hatchling enclosures 'till they're about 12 months or outgrown it?
at the moment mine's in a Monkfield terranium but I was thinking of ordering a 24" vivarium for my new one coming in a couple of weeks, but don't want to risk loosing it so I'll put him into a faunarium for a few months first

| The general rule for moving them up enclosure sizes is when the length of the snake is greater than the length plus width of the enclosure. Having said that, some people put young snakes straight into larger vivs with no problems some prefer to move up sizes gradually. Personally I prefer to move up sizes gradually. I am a firm believer that if you can avoid stress in the first place then why take the risk. It is a matter of choice. A few things to consider when putting a young snake into a large enclosure is that they can be a bit freaked from having alot of space which can lead to feeding issues and a grumpy snake, so it's a good idea to make sure there are lots and lots of places to hide and that the snake can move around the viv without being seen. Plus they can escape between the panes of glass or the fans of the vents and it can be nigh on impossible to find them if they decide to hide under the substrate. Moving straight into a large viv will save you money in the long run however and a 3ft viv is fine for an adult snake depending on the depth of it. My adults vivs are 3ft x about 20" i think. |

The size rule from kdlang is a good rule of thumb. It is hard to give an age for moving up encloser size as it depends on the snake. My yearling Apollo is still in his faun as he is still really tiny. Still only approx 25g. It'll probably be quite a while before I can move him up to a bigger viv. I think the faun he is in was very scary for him to begin with as it was quite a size upgrade from the tiny hatchling box he had been kept in the shop.
Some people choose to move their snakes up to the 36" straight from the faun and put lots and lots of cover in, some people do it gradually. Some snakes cope with going straight from the faun to the large viv fine whereas others stop eating and become stressed by all that space. A lot of it is up to the snake I think. |

| Depends on the snake, all mine where in their final 3ft vivs at 9 months without any problems. As kd rightly says plenty of hides, a good couple of inches of substrate and lots of Dunelm Ivy goes a long way to help them settle, |

| Corno was moved from her faun into her 3ft viv at 7 months. Ember is getting too long for the same faun, but is such a skinny wee thing I'm getting a bigger faun as a transition as she is too tiny for a big viv! |
