Hi,

I have got a new female corn called slither last night, she is 1 years old and extremly cute.

I have never kept a snake before and just have a question, my kids are desperate to hold her and they had a little hold yesterday (the man who sold her to us said she was very use to children) but I got worried about her being out the vivaruim too long. How long can they be out for?

you need to leave her for a week to settle in, no handling, no feeding, just water changes. you should be able to tell when she's had enough of playtime

1.0.0 Butter motley corn (Sheldon)
0.1.0 Caramel Corn (Maggie)
0.1.0 Caramel motley corn (Echo)
1.0.0 Cat (Angus)

Hello and welcome

Since you've only just got her, its a good idea to leave her completely alone in her viv for a few days - a week just to let her relax and de-stress from the move
Most of my snakes seem to really enjoy being out of their enclosures.. really just so they can explore lol! Slither will probably let you know when she's ready to go home; moving quickly and trying to get away, or balling up etc

Thank you for your replies

Slither still has the same home and nothing has moved inside, does she still need to be left?

I want her to settle in properly so will take your advice, even if it means a few days headache from 3 very inpatient kids

I'd still leave her, yep
Even in the same enclosure, theres still lots of new sights, smells and vibrations which she'll be aware of

Edit:
Curse you and your speedier typing, Scaly!!

Um just out of interest - is that your thermostat probe hanging in the air at the back? If so you need to move it - it needs to be positioned right in contact with the heat mat/basking area so that the correct area is registered - hanging like that it will only measure the air temp, which means the surface temp will be FAR hotter and likely dangerous to your snake. Also you need a digital thermometer probe in contact with the mat to measure the temps as the thermostat settings are only an approximate guide.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your 1st snake, she looks a good size for a 1yr old :)
