The Meal worms. This is some of my first ever mealworm that I have made/bred they are full size now and soon will be beginning their journey to beetlehood.
And then the silk worms, due to the absolutely amazing generosity of Ozziesmum these are my Silk worms.
And then the Wax worms, taking forever to grow them but they are SO fast its untrue, the ones in the store must be half dead seeing how quick they should be.

Mealies are so easy to get going, you just get the beetles in a tub, and take the substrate out every fortnight (or sooner if you want more) and put it somewhere warm and the baby mealies will hatch from the eggs in there. They are absolutely tiny so you'll barely know they are there, stick some carrot peel in and they come up and feed from it. I use a mix of oat bran and bug grub as substrate, when its all turned to dust sieve the worms out and put new substrate in, feed them potato or carrot every few days for moisture. |

thanks lota! can the substrate be anything that they will lay there eggs in? atm there on a mix of bug grub and oats, shall i wait until all beetles have hatched and then wait a fortnight and remove substrate? also how long did it take for the mealies to grow from tiny to the size you have in your hand? soz for all the questions i just like hearing from person as its the best way to learn xD and thanks for the help |

Yeah they will lay their eggs straight in the substrate. They might lay on the veg and the egg box but I just sacrifice those as too much of a pain to harvest lol. The ones in my hand are a few months old I think, you can heat them to grow them quicker but I just let them get on with stuff sat on top of the Tarantula tubs just above room temp. |
