Grass snakes are a protected species in the netherlands. I'm in the local grass snake group that surveys a certain area, catches the snakes to measure them, sex them and take DNA samples and builds nice piles of rotting leaf and such for the snakes to lay their eggs in. I have some pics I just had to share :D

I was really surprised when I heard we had a grass snake group here. I've loved every moment of being in the group ever since :D.
We count the empty egg shells every spring when we remove the old piles of leaves to get an idea of the size of the population. So far it's been increasing almost every year :D |
