My father in law breeds pigeons and I was wondering if I could feed my snake a newly hatched one. It would be around the size of a small mouse and the beaks are not developed yet so there are no sharp bits.

Thank you

In theory yes a snake can eat a bird, in practice probably not. I think your father in law would feed you to something if you did.

He's agreeable as he breeds loads of them just thought it may gave my snake some variation to his diet!

Snakes don't *need* variation to their diets, rodents are all good in their books. Danger is they may decide that the new food is the best thing EVER and start to refuse mice, which just causes a bloody headache!

Very unlikely to start refusing other food, corns are eating machines, I give my lot the odd chick, rat, gerbil, multi as a treat, never had any of them refuse food. If they are clean and safe and not just for the supposed thrill of watching them make a kill (I'd prekill them if it was me) I dont see why not if I'm honest. Though I dont know about pigeons and parasites they may carry, might be easier to get yourself some day old chicks at the reptile store they are really cheap (or cheep if you like puns).

not likely to be able to do the egg-eater trick, you can feed them quail eggs though, they are smaller and more easily swallowed and less likely to injure.
