Too small and expensive

Paper mache maybe?

I cant think of any reasons why not, as long as i give time for the paint and glue fumes to disperse, any enlightenment?

Yeah, but you have to varnish them, if you search for how to make hides for under a fiver on here it goes through steps, I can't link it as I'm on my phone x

The idea of the varnish is to make sure it's poop safe I think. Every month or more often you're going to have to be wiping it with disinfectant. Don't think the velvety stuff would stand up to that for long!

You can get some pretty nice decor in homesense from time to time that's resin made to look like stone or just glass that's chunky enough to withstand a bit of snake bashing. Just have to watch it doesn't get too hot when you put it in your viv. Anything that's wipe clean-able is perfect.

I'm currently trying to find a nice bowl for my boa and while she's still a baby I'm also considering what I'll use when she's older as I quite like to theme my vivs (as shown in the DIY section) and a big ol' cat litter tray or something else big enough for her to soak in completely isn't going to look very attractive...maybe I'll just coat it in grout or sealant and dry brush it then varnish it (leaving the bit where the water goes untouched so it's still sanitary and has no chemicals.)

Cacti!

http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/desert-plants/

If your going for a desert type theme, a few of these and some sandblasted branches and mopani wood, maybe a few resin animal skulls would look quite good.
