the only thing with this one is the heat comes from the bottom . which means the bottom of the nest box will be alot warmer than the top thats y i was told to stick the mats on the sides so it warms evenly . however im definately not knocking that incubator it may work absolutely fine for lee just i have used this method for two years now and i no i get the same temps at the bottom and the top |

I've set up my own incubator using a 3ft x 1ft viv.
The heat mat is in the far right hand side, with a sheet of cardboard over it and then a big dish of water on it. then the eggs are in a tupperware box, without a lid on buried in vermiculite.
I know people frown upon homemade incubators, but my eggs are perfectly healthy. I haven't even had to add more water to the vermiculite as the water bowl keeps the entire viv at around 90% humidity.
The top two eggs did dent inwards a little last week, but I laid a damp paper towel over them and they are perfect again now.
It means that I don't have to worry about adding more water and I can see them through the glass.
I have checked the conditions once a week since they were laid and I couldn't be happier with the results. They are at a constant 83F, dropping down to 80F on cold nights.
I candled the top few eggs the other day and I saw a little bit of movement in each :D so exciting!
If you do decide to make your own however, I would be sure to test run it for a month or so. I had mine set up before I even mated my corns. Nothing worse than setting it up with the eggs already laid and it not working! |
