Hi, you need to leave him alone completely undisturbed for a week to settle in to his new surroundings. Just change water daily and it may help to carry a sock around in your pocket for a day then pop it into his tank to help him get used to your scent.
Then, just get him out and handle for 5-10 mins each night until he gets more used to you. Rattling is normal defensive behaviour, he will get used to you. They alsao tend to head butt rather than actually bite, but even if they bite, I@ve been told a hatchy bite (is he a hatchy?) can barely be felt although luckily I've not been tagged myself yet lol! When the time comes to hold him, just make sure you get him gently but firmly - you'll probably find he's fine once you get him outside the faun/viv :) |

Hello and welcome. One of mine is feisty but has never struck at the glass. It is probably just being naturally defensive. Try not to keep on looking in on him to keep its stress levels down and just go in to change water and spot clean if needed. Leave for a week just doing this so he can settle. Lots of people suggest carrying a sock around with them for a day or two to get your sent and then leave it in the faun with them so he will get used to you when you have to put your hand in. |

Hi there If you find that the snake is still uncertain after the week of settling in, you can try the scent trick. It has worked in the past for myself and other members on the forum. Carry a sock on you for 24 hours and then pop it in the housing. This should hopefully allow him/her to become used to your scent and mabye feel a bit more at ease. But again, echoing what everyone else has said, it takes time and patience. |
