My cornsnake has taken to sleeping under it's water bowl at the cool end of the viv. Is this ok? We've had Ara about a month and he's usually a very active little snake but this week he's not been as active and is sleeping under the waterbowl which must be the coolest point in the viv.

He shed last week and has been eating normally, seems fine with handling but a little docile at times. Gives me a heart attack when I go to get him out though and I can't find him until I've lifted EVERYTHING up!!

Do you think there is something wrong, or he's just found a cool new hiding place that he thinks I won't get him out from?

We just found out that in wiring up my boyfriend's new viv the thermostats had gotten confused. So the thermo for his bigger vivarium was controlling my mini heatmat and my thermostat was controlling one of his heatmats for his much bigger viv.

We think maybe it's been too hot for my little snakeyface as his other heatmats are different to my smaller one and would need to be on longer to heat the bigger area of the hot end of his viv.

We've just sorted it all out and I really hope that was the only thing - we'll monitor the temps again now, but they were previously (before the mix up) at around 29degrees in the hot end so should be back to that now!

hopefully that was it, shows the importance of checking temps and setups, mistakes do happen, after all we're only human

Now we've sorted out the stats he's not there all the time (sorry, that was me before using Pony's -my boyfriend's- account) but he still quite likes a sleep there fairly often.

He's more active and his usual self again though - feeding day today, going to try and make him coil as he's far too kind to the little pinkies and just takes them politely from the tweezers every time!

I had a mix up with my stat/mat. I had the stat plugged into itself, then i thought i had fixed it but ended up having the N64 plugged into the stat and the heat mat straight into the mains...... Felt like a tool ;)
