you need to measure the mat temp, not the ambient air temp. and the analog ones are not as accurate, the temps might rocket sky high and it would take ages for the thermometer to react. plus you can see the display on the digital ones from the other side of the room.

self adhesive strip ones are great for fish tanks, but useless for a cornsnake set up. If they are placed where you need to measure the temperature (under the substrate above the heat mat) you can't see it. The same goes for the dial ones. Its really pointless having a thermometer stuck on the wall half way up unless you have a species that needs the air heating or something that basks near the thermometer.
