Punkin is now officially a serial offender- following his recent exploits when he got himself stuck trying to get in upstairs to where the girly snake lives, he's had another go at it, except this time he pushed aside the barrier I made and somehow squoze his whole self through the gap into the upstairs bit and was spotted sitting smugly on Debbie's heatmat. I think his refusal to eat for the last month is a deliberate tactic to get skinny enough to fit through the space... Luckily she's blue (again... ) and so was jammed into her other hide right up against the doorway with no way anybody could bother her. He got put into the Jail RUB while I fixed back the barrier permanently- it's now screwed to the shelf/upper floor, so now I'm back to the situation where I can't open the left hand door of the viv, cos there's a solidly fixed unmovable block of synthetic wood-foam in the way, and a randy snake sulking in the bottom flat.
when does 'breeding season' end?????

Im worried that 'true love' may have already found a way....there's a distinct possibility that he had been slipping up and down between the 2 vivs before I caught him that last time-
Debbie has put on 80 grams in a little over a month, looks frighteningly bulgy, and is blue for the 2nd time in under 6 weeks....
I'm really quite concerned cos I've read so many things about egg binding etc, and other people's traumas with females doing eggs- whether fertile or no-
she's such a darling, and I'd hate for her to have unnecessary stress/health problems.....
love my snakeys but by god they put me through the mill |
and you thought there was no such thing as a stupid question....

UPDATE-
the latest on The Adventures Of A Snakey Sex-Pest...
after I wrote that first post he went back in with the barrier thingy screwed down, then late last night while wrapping darling daughter's birthday presents I spotted him climbing round the lock and pushing up against the foam- barrier thing, which looked to be giving way- so out he came again and spent last night sulking in jail...again
fortunately OH enjoys a DIY challenge, and there is now a wooden affair in the gap, in a fiendishly clever arrangement with a slit narrow enough to prohibit snake movement, but just wide enough to allow the door to be opened so I can get in that side of the viv- (though it can't be opened fully, I can now reach in for cleaning etc) hopefully this is now the end of his nocturnal visiting sessions...
just got to wait and see what happens after fatty-bum's eyes clear and she sheds her skin.
I really really hope she's just fat. I seriously do not feel confident enough to cope with unplanned eggs. It's bad enough when I do it myself- last accident I had turned out ginger.... |
